I am quite new to the gym so still sussing it out and haven't used all the machines or free weights or cable things yet.

I do like using the kettlebells and next time my challenge will be to have a go with the smith machine. I want to get into deadlifts to see how strong I can get.

What's your best thing to do at the gym?

Anything you really don't like? I find bicep curls really hard.

Tbh for a while now I’ve only done the classes. I find going to the gym by myself and using the equipment pretty full. The classes keep me motivated. I usually do 2 classes back to back 3 times a week.

I love back squats. I can back squat over 100kg 🙌

Love a good deadlift too.

There's nothing like strength training to make you feel like an absolute bad-ass 💪

ghostyslovesheets · 15/10/2023 20:42

Free weights for arms and sandbag for dead lifts and squats

HeyMicky · 15/10/2023 20:50

Hack squats. It feels more "real" than a leg press but still assisted so you can go super heavy

Deadlifting. I can deadlift (the equivalent to) myself, and I am not a tiny lady.

Also bench pressing. Barbell squats. Overhead press with the bar. All of it.

Except hip thrusts. Hate them.

Graciebobcat · 15/10/2023 21:14

I don't like having a personal trainer who is younger than the number of years I've been going to a gym for telling me what to do, wafting ropes about, pushing boxes about, stepping up and down on boxes, swinging kettlebells around and generally anything which seems gimmicky and that makes me feel and look stupid.

I like doing my own thing with free weights and machines and mats as I know what suits me, what I enjoy and what works for me better than anyone else.

Nothankyou22 · 15/10/2023 21:20

I do 20 min cycle warm up, I hate it but it was part of physio so I’ve stuck with it, then I do resistance training using different machines, I then used to do kettle bell swings and squats using one at the end but my knees still playing up and then to finish it off I do 10 min walk.
I do cardio in the gym because most days I don’t reach 10k steps because my job is sitting at a desk all day so pushes me to do it there.
I love weights and usually split my days between upper and lower body exercises.
I hate arm push exercises because I’m still weak af at them 😂 and love leg day

NotFastButFurious · 15/10/2023 21:27

I love a deadlift 💪🏼

user1471556642 · 15/10/2023 21:32

@ScandiNoirNuit The bar weighs either 15kg or 20kg, I bet you could. Give it a try with a pt, getting stronger is a brilliant feeling!

Divebar2021 · 15/10/2023 21:34

I abandoned my old commercial gym and PT and joined a tennis club / health club because I felt so uninspired by weights. I’ve been swimming, playing tennis and and enjoying a bit of Pilates / running for 3 months now. I’ve just started back in the gym and have been keeping it simple with dumb bell routines. I’ve just got back into the barbell back squats and RDLs though which I enjoy and will incorporate the leg press next time…. I can lift very heavy on that. I’m keen to incorporate some of the cable machines… I’ve got to work out a routine although I have found a couple online. Im aiming for 3 times a week although I still swim and play tennis.

DaftQuestionForToday · 15/10/2023 21:46

It used to be the leg press.

i had an accident (not at the gym!) a couple of years ago and my knees were on their way out before that, they're completely knackered now. So I don't even know what I could do now. No more upper body machines, only the lightest free weights as I had a whole shoulder replacement.

mostly barely have the energy to stand for 5 minutes so I'm not motivated to go back, too look old, fat & incompetent!!

Louloulaughs · 15/10/2023 22:16

I have no idea why but I love the leg press.

L1ttledrummergirl · 15/10/2023 22:21

Walking out at the end thinking thank fuck I don't have to do that again for a few days.

LittleMousewithcloggson · 15/10/2023 22:23

addictedtotheflats · 15/10/2023 22:31

Shoulders, chest and back at the minute. Loving a good upper body burn and finally managed to bench 45kg (woo) although i am 35 weeks pregnant now so im very slow.

Aitrop · 15/10/2023 22:37

They have a great vending machine.

Before that, I do like sit ups, especially when my stomach muscles ache the next day.

Mydogmybestfriend · 16/10/2023 02:00

Cardio running or sky machine I love sweating

Florabundance · 16/10/2023 02:24

@Wormwoodgal ...damn ! You just stole my line !

Wormwoodgal · 15/10/2023 19:59

Favourite thing? Not going.

I was about to say "leaving"! 😆

I think my favourite is the recumbent bike. I can sit with my eyes closed while pedalling.

I don't mind any of the things (I'm on a prescribed routine for cardio and strength) except the standing bar pushups, because they hurt my feet.
