I seem to be having a massive flare up and can hardly move

Is this pain normal for ME?

Yes, unfortunately; I’m sorry you’re going through this, can you stop and rest? It’s essential especially if you’ve flared. Try to switch off and relax x

I’ve never had pain like this

I will lose my job if this continues 😢

@MEwhatnow please feel free to pm me if you want. But first things first. Stress is a huge factor in this disease, try to do anything today that you can to relax and think about other things. What is your situation, can you get help? Take some ibuprofen and drink plenty of fluids. I know it’s a cliche but it’s real; I’ve not had a migraine since I made sure I drank more (water…) and have a hug from me x

Then start to think about your work situation. ME is a disability and so is a protected characteristic. Can you ask for a referral to an occupational health department or similar? They have to consider what adjustments they can make for you. It’s long term thinking but If you can work in a way that protects your health you will be less at risk of flare ups in the future.

Incorrect, ME is not listed as a disability under the Equalities Act. However, an impairment can be considered a disability under the Equality Act if it makes it harder for you to do everyday activities.

@SiousieSoo thank you for the clarification, that’s interesting. I knew I got adjustments after I got a diagnosis, got confused about it.

Still in absolute agony

Do you have fibromyalgia? ME is often co-morbid with fibromyalgia.

MEwhatnow · 18/10/2023 10:31

Possibly both 😢

What are you on pain relief wise? With fibromyalgia it can be a bit hit and miss to find what works best for you. Ask your GP for a referral to a pain clinic.
