Help! Added saltwater to 30yr old rosemary bush

Says it all really. Recently had to move my 6ft wide rosemary plant, which has successfully moved house with ne several times. Moved it about 2 weeks ago and on Monday, without thinking I added pond water to water it, forgetting that we'd added 0.1% salt to help with an issue we are having. Used about 10-15 litres, and due to family stuff, I only realised today what I'd done when I noticed it's turning brown.....any advice as I really don't want to lose it?

Atm, I'm digging it back up and washing soil off of it and then replanting it with fresh compost (after washing out where it is to remove any salt left in the soil). Also have bone meal to add.

I'm not really a gardener and this is about my only success and I'm strangely attached to it.

Thanks.

I would really appreciate some advice. I can post a photo if that would help tell if it's too far gone to save?

I've had a shitty time recently and this has really upset me (as silly as that sounds), so I'm hoping for a win by being able to save it.

Tricky. The browning might be related to the initial move or might be the salt or it might be the recent temperature change. Washing the roots seems sensible on the face of it. Rosemary that well established is a tough old bird, I think it'll be fine. Take heart and hold your nerve x

I think you've probably done all you can, but sadly you're likely to lose it. :-(
Don't plant it back where it was, you can't wash all that salt away now. That patch could be non-productive for a very long time. (Which is why environmentalists beg people not to use salt on weeds).

Only other thing would be to cut the brown out as you see it, don't let it waste any energy on bits already too far gone.

I will struggle to find somewhere else to plant it as we're having work done, atm, but I'll see what I can do. I washed the hole out so much that the water is stuck there for now, so I'm just letting it drain and I'll then repeat the process. This is the plant.... Photos of the roots, leaves and the hole it was planted in.

I'd drench the area, and the roots, keep drenching it to wash away the salt, and help encourage osmosis / membrane exchange . Hopefully it'll recover.

Don't forget, rosemary likes sandy, gravelly soil and to be in full sun. I'd replant as fast as possible, trim it back quite hard and wait until spring to see if it's going to recover.

Plus, take cuttings quick! Then you can hedge your bets!
