Do you ever think it’s sad that we have to grow up?

Off work today, period pains…
Lay on the sofa in pjs, throw over me, chocolate & nachos, watching the film ‘13 going on 30’ and Beverley hills 90210
Anyway, soon I’ll be picking my Dd up from school, dinner, chores, planning for work etc
It sounds utterly ridiculous, just having one of those days and wishing I could go back in time

I don't mind being an adult, but I would love to have one day to myself where I didn't have to work or drive someone somewhere or take care of another person.

I've got COVID and feeling pretty rough. My youngest was off nursery with a sick bug from Wednesday so was looking forward to a day off work today for me to just rest and get better as she's gone back to nursery.....then the big one starts being sick overnight 🙄 husband is having a day surgery today so there's me just ploughing through again 😩 gutted about my missed rest day, just need a break sometimes to actually recover! Enjoy your TV watching and blanket!

Hell no. I bloody love being an adult. I love that I've grown up.

As a child you are 100% at the mercy and whims of those around you. If you're being bullied, tough shit, you're going to school each day. If you're being abused at home, tough shit, you can't go anywhere. If you're miserable, tough shit, your life and your movements are pretty much controlled by your parents.

As an adult you have SO much more freedom. You can choose to leave a job that is making you miserable. You can leave a relationship that's making you unhappy. You can make massive decisions like emigrating or moving across the country, who you spend time with, which career to pursue, based on what YOU want. Of course lots of this only applies to people with a degree of privilege. Many adults in the world end up just having to toil away at shit jobs 24/7 and have no real control over their life. I get that.

Being an adult is amazing. I feel quite sad when I hear people say 'who'd ever want to grow up' or 'who wouldn't be a child again?' as it just highlights how lovely some people's childhoods must have been to want to go back there.

Love the freedom of being grown up; hate the responsibility sometimes. I have a reasonable amount of flexibility in my job as long as I do the hours over the course of the week. Random weekdays in summer I'd go for a walk and a swim when the weather's good and we'd be sitting under a waterfall wondering why this can't just be our lives. Then I remember I need money to buy things and I get back to work.

I'm lucky to have that flexibility though so I can't complain too much. I can't go back to being a kid so I need to settle for acting like one sometimes.

Get a few more sick days penciled in. Treat yourself.
