Hello,
I hope you don't mind this question. It's just that I am required to fill in a budget form for me and my four kids weekly expenses for maintenance.
I am not good at these types of things and feel I am probably underestimating a lot here.
I have four kids, three teenagers and a 6 year old. We also have two dogs. Can I ask how much roughly you would think a family with four kids would spend on groceries or how much your grocery bill is regardless of what size family you are.
Also what other costs should I include, my mind is gone blank and i sometimes use cash to pay for things or services so I don't have all costs on bank statements.
Thank you in advance 😊

It's asking what your family spends, not another family. Just wait a week and work it out.

It will vary hugely depending on whether you all have a fillet steak for dinner every day, or a low budget pizza.

People's responses here to any similar thread, there's one a day, will vary between £50 and £600 a week for your size family.

How long is a piece of string?

You need to go through your bank statements and work out what you have spent, estimate your cash purchases.....you know how much cash you have withdrawn. Write down all the things you use cash for.

Take your monthly income, subtract whatever is left over at the end of a month (either in cash or in the bank), subtract the cost of utilities and rent. Whatever is left would be roughly the money you spend on food and other maintenance costs. Unless, of course you have a habit of spending extravagantly on nights out, clothes and gadgets.
Not sure how dogs are relevant. I assume they are not entitled to maintenance money.

Thanks for all replies. I included the dogs as we were told to by mediator to include the dog costs , food etc..so far I am totally nearly 250€ per week..does this sound like an awful lot

Food costs - supermarket, milk delivery, cafe,

School costs - school lunches, material costs, uniform or other clothing if no uniform ie must they have sports stuff and rain wear, school trips

classes or clubs - do your children do any additional clubs like swimming, music, sports

travel costs - do you drive or public transport to school and classes

Essentials- clothing/ books/ shoes/ bag/ toiletries/ toys. What you things you spend per year, divide by 52 for weekly. Ie if you know you spend around €40 per shoe and they need trainers, boots, wellies, slippers per year that’s a fair amount.

We’re a family to two adults and two teenagers and my food shopping bill is around £400-£450 a month including toiletries, cleaning & laundry products.
i would assume yours would be higher but definitely worth looking back over your bank statements for a few months.

We are a family of two adults and two big dogs the dogs are £180 a month just food and I would say we are at £280 a month but we are meat heavy eaters. That's the basic without any extras, take aways, fancy something else, or alcohol.

Trampley · 13/10/2023 19:45

Two adults, £60 groceries per week on average.

troppibambini6 · 13/10/2023 20:12

We have four kids (18,13,10 and 9) and two dogs. Weekly shopping is between £300 and £320 normally. 90% from Aldi 10% Waitrose.
No alcohol but everything lease including dog food. No top ups and cook from scratch every night and usually a roast on Sunday.

If you have no idea, go online to an online supermarket and put realistically everything you would use to cook in a month, including cooking oil, spices etc. then divide by 4.33 to get a weekly figure.
