Al-Jazeera

I was in the office this week and noticed that instead of BBC or Sky News as usual someone had turned on Al Jazeera. I have to say I was taken aback. It felt like a bit of a slap in the face. Felt very pointed in a week where such brutality has taken place.

OP posts:

Everyone ignoramus racist seems to think they can post racist bullshit now.

Dymaxion · 12/10/2023 22:20

Never look to one news source for all your information. Most of them have some very good journalists. A lot of them will have some bias, even if they believe they don't because nothing is ever unbiased in life, facts are facts, but deciding to report certain facts over others is bias. This is why you should look at news providers who don't normally tick your boxes when it comes to personal bias, you get the facts you didn't know about.

falalalalal · 12/10/2023 22:22

Al Jazeera is far superior now to BBC.

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/10/2023 22:25

I'm actually surprised at all the Al-Jazeera love on this thread, given the usual MN response to anything UAE/Qatar related.

OP they're by and large an excellent international news channel and do a lot of random in-depth global documentaries of high quality. They pay well and attract a high calibre of journalists and have a very international staff.

of course we should avoid all things vaguely muslim/arabic/middle Eastern...

let's start with Algebra!

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
the funniest comment tonight.
thanks for the light relief!

Plexie · 12/10/2023 22:29

Their reporting covers more parts of the world than the BBC's so-called world coverage (which is basically restricted to just Europe and USA).

And they show some fascinating documentaries about topics we don't see on UK channels.

This is good advice.

Longwhiskers · 12/10/2023 22:30

I don’t watch it as don’t watch a lot of tv news now but have come across their excellent investigative journalism in the past.

sadmumuk · 12/10/2023 22:52

Al Jazeera is like the better version of the BBC in the Middle East.

Vettrianofan · 12/10/2023 22:57

I don't watch BBC news any more. Al Jazeera has some fantastic news stories and not to be sniffed at.

yazoolove · 12/10/2023 23:03

The BBC is full of crap just anchors shouting at you with questions you have already answered and constantly cutting you off and accusing and abusing their guests. The use of their language is absolutely vile today too. Just today they were saying Palestinian kids died but Israeli children were killed. The use of their language is absolutely disgusting hence why I refuse to watch any US or British news sources anymore. You are lucky to have been introduced to Al Jazeera despite having your prejudices but trust me when you watch it and absorb it, you go off to research and verify your own facts which is absolutely eye opening instead of being exposed to biased propaganda.

This. I've stopped watching the BBC now, it's turning into the Daily Mail. The reporting of Biden's claims of seeing beheaded Israeli babies has now been retracted by the Whitehouse but the BBC are still reporting it. Al Jazeera have very balanced coverage.

HeyHoTheWindAndTheRain · 12/10/2023 23:08

I've been following the Al Jazeera live feed on the Israel-Hamas conflict - as well as the Guardian and other UK news outlets - for the past few days. I've found Al Jazeera to be very well written, thoughtful and an interesting balance to the main UK news outlets - they really do have some excellent journalists.

Wordsmithery · 13/10/2023 03:01

Wtf. Who exactly do you think Al Jazeera are?! It's a well regarded news channel that will give you a more impartial view than, say, the BBC. Educate yourself before coming out with this nonsense. A quick Google search would have told you all you need to know.

Bloomingmagnolia · 13/10/2023 03:16

Interesting that this bullshit post was OP’s first one…

ShippingForecastSnooze · 13/10/2023 05:11

It's a good job Al Gore isn't running for president at the moment

Lol @LivingDeadGirlUK 🤣

dudsville · 12/10/2023 20:15

I've watched al jezeera, also the Russia one and American news channels, in aspirin to ours. It interests me to see different perspectives. I come from the view that all news is biased and that I'll have a better grasp, if still incomplete, if i take in a range of sources.

^ Agree with this.

It’s a legit platform, I used to watch various news channels. Find it too depressing now.

givemeasunnyday · 13/10/2023 05:45

What's wrong with them? My Dad used to watch their news all the time (in NZ), and from what I saw it was good. Why are you complaining when it's obvious you know nothing about them Hmm

Tartareistasty · 13/10/2023 05:46

I was always fan of Al Jazeera.
They have excellent reporting on many world events and quite frankly, it wouldn't hurt many people in UK to watch or read non UK news (same for people of any country reading only theirs) sometime.

frenchnoodle · 13/10/2023 05:58

I also like a bit of nhk news.

frenchnoodle · 13/10/2023 06:03

If anyone who only really watches BBC new wants a challenge, I would say try spending a week away from BBC news.

Valerianandfoxglovesoup · 13/10/2023 06:27

I'm in hospital a few buildings down from them. It's such a funny little complex, everything else in Doha is new and modern and Al Jazeera is essentially a group of little ancient buildings and some portable cabins. But they do have the roundtable named after them, TV roundabout is a national treasure even though its an intersection now (totally missing the OPs bigoted point)

allhellcantstopusnow · 13/10/2023 06:52

BennyBlancofromtheBronx · 12/10/2023 20:19

I'm so sorry you went through the trauma of seeing brown people on TV

Quite.

Susieb2023 · 13/10/2023 06:58

So ignorant it hurts my head!

heartsinvisiblefury · 13/10/2023 07:01

A slap in the face? I'm struggling to get my head around your mind. Crack on with Rupert Murdoch and his ilk then but please try to broaden your perspectives. Please.
