Help please!
All of a sudden all of my cashmere jumpers are being eaten!
Must be the larvae of moths? or could it be something else?
Am I being unreasonable to turn a couple of draws in my freezer into clothes storage.
Will this kill them off, or do I need chemicals?
All tips welcome.

YANBU putting in freezer kills the little buggers

YABU no that does not help get chemicals

The belly button moths are another subject altogether, is it moths or from rubbing on my belt?

No idea about freezer but it sounds like it’s deffo moths, my mum (and now I) swears by lavender oil…they hate it!

I’d second lavender - I had terrible problems, and it sorted it right out.

I put all my woollens in the freezer at the start and end of each winter, and store them with silica sachets in sealed plastic in between. The freezer will kill off the moth.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 12/10/2023 20:14

Could be carpet beetle larvae - woolly bears.

Thanks for all of your responses, have just ordered everything lavender including washing scent, lavender bags and clothes spray.

Prevention is much better than cure, obviously, but I've rescued some of my moth-eaten cashmere jumpers as follows:

If the hole is too big to mend invisibly I buy that daisy braid (you can get many colours) either from shops or online, cut off the individual daisies and sew them over the holes. I like the random scatter, but if you wanted to you could create some kind of symmetrical effect. They cope with washing and pressing well if sewn on securely.

Yes, this tends to limit the use of the jumpers to much more casual occasions, but for me it's been worth it to salvage a much-loved garment and I've always had compliments from people who think it's an intentional quirky design feature. And, if it's a sizeable hole, it looks better than trying to pull it all together.

I've found at least ten moths in the last few days. All over the kitchen and saw the cocoons in the garden shed and garden. Really worried they are going to go after my clothes. I have a nice coat and several woollen jumpers. This guide is telling me that I can deter them with using lavender. Does any one have any success with this? Worried whether it will work and scared of using chemicals or mothballs. I remember the awful smell when I was a kid
