Come on.

Peri meno symptoms AND flooding every time I laugh, sneeze, cough, sit down, stand up, move and the pain. Dear god the pain.

Yes I’m on HRT, yes I’m probably very anaemic, yes I’m tired because you know, the insomnia & anaemia, yes I’m totally totally miserable.

But after 3 months of no periods (hooray) then I come away for work using a bag I don’t usually use so no sanitary bits & bobs and bang, I’m in pain and gushing.

Its so so so fucking miserable.

I got reprimanded yesterday at work because I forgot a piece of information because I can’t retain bloody information, my head is permanently woolly or just plain empty.

Feeling so rubbish.
When will it be over? Im over 50 by the way!

I so feel your pain @MrsNandortheRelentless

I went out with my parents yesterday. Or rather, I tried to, as on the way I had the tell tale cramps and as soon as a I got out of the car, whoosh! Luckily I had a pad in my bag but not change of underwear or jeans (thankfully dark and thankfully brought a jacket I could tie around my waist). I just felt so awful and as it wasn't too far away I got my dh to pick me up (he offered when I messaged him about it) so my parents could enjoy their day.

This explains why I just can't plan things than I can't get out of. So a theatre trip or similar. A lunch or drinks is ok as I have an understanding friend.
I am on HRT as well as Depo Provera injections, and still my period sneaks through. I have just had about 3 weeks of light spotting, with a surprise flood at 2am a few nights ago. It's the unpredictability of it that drives me mad.

Roll on my hysterectomy operation, only another 6 months to go, all being well, 18 months waiting so far.

I take it you have seen/ been referred to gynae for this? Mine is caused by fibroids and polyps, so I'm not sure adding clean eating and weight lifting to my 10k steps a day would solve this🤔

Oh my god you need to move doctor! Why are people still tolerating this in 2023? And complain about your GP, some of them won't learn until they're forced to.

THIS
YES I'M SHOUTING

my mum had this forty years ago - ended up having a huge growth removed from her uterus. It was only when we moved and she got a new (woman) doctor that she got properly investigated.

I don't care what life stage it is. Anyone having this needs a proper investigation.

or tell your regular doctor you need proper investigation and complain to the practice manager.

I also had heavy periods and flooding during peri menopause. When they started to really hurt, the doctor allowed me an ultrasound scan (I had to beg, they were reluctant to refer me..), at which they found benign polyps and I had an operation to remove them. A few years later after having no periods for 12 months, 8 started bleeding, my GP immediately referred me, they found polyps again which were removed during a hysteroscopy, this time they weren't so benign but all is ok now.

Heronwatcher · 12/10/2023 11:29

Definitely go to your GP, I got an implant (not a coil) and it has worked wonders, maybe one very light period every couple of months. There are various options but the key thing is that the doctor should take this seriously and discuss it with you. Ditto the anaemia/ insomnia. I’d also recommend acupuncture but not instead of, as well as the GP.

The most successful approach to these symptoms is clean eating, walking 7k steps a day and weight lifting

There is a tablet that lightens your bleeding

If you did the above your life would be much better

If you don’t do it you can ask for HRT but if you don’t want to be given hormones the above will level you out in a way no other thing has worked for me

I'm sure women suffering through peri hadn't thought of that particular panacea. How silly of us! Do you have any cures for cancer that we also don't know about?🙄

Beamur · 12/10/2023 12:38

Your periods don't need to have stopped for HRT.
I don't think your Dr is up to speed with current advice. Is there someone else at the surgery you could talk to? I saw the GP for initial consultation (actually it was a telephone call) and she set up blood tests and called me back with results - when she was happy I was suitable she referred me to their specialist nurse who sorted out the prescription and talked me through how to use the medication.

flotsomandjetsome · 12/10/2023 12:38

@Pollyputhekettleon @EmmaEmerald
It wasn't my GP themselves but the 'Menopause specialist' at the surgery!!

The only training they appeared to have received was the ability to talk very calmly and kindly while telling someone they don't consider menopause until you have been period free for at least a year. This was a couple of years ago and my, very heavy (and irregular due to PCOS) periods continue ☹️

I'm undecided whether to kick up a massive stink at the surgery (which is walking distance) or just leave

MrsNandortheRelentless · 12/10/2023 14:38

Fatigue. Oh god the fatigue!

I take multivits with iron.
Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Can’t tolerate it daily.

Im sitting here in pain. I’ve been in a meeting this lunch time at work. I could feel a big jellyfish sized clot trying to exit my body whilst trying to look someone in the eye and have a conversation.

its shit. Utter utter shit.

I have just ordered some spatone. There are points during the day where my arms and legs feel so heavy that I just cannot walk anymore. After reading different threads on here I thought I would start with the iron side of things to see if that helps. I cannot cope with the tiredness anymore.

shellyleppard · 12/10/2023 17:37

Bigcoatweather
I was pre menopausal for 3 years. Periods were horrific. Nothing for six months then every two weeks. Eventually saw gynaecologist at the hospital and they fitted the mirena coil. No periods for 4 years and I am now on the other side. Memory is finally improving and period free. It will get better eventually x

People are scoffing at this, but I have to say, about five years ago I did the JERF diet (just eat real food) which is basically cutting out all processed food and sugar. I did find my peri symptoms did seem to massively calm. I did it for about six months, then fell off the waggon.

OriginalFloorboards · 12/10/2023 21:30

I’m 50. Stage 4 endometriosis including bowel stuck etc. Sit on a Tens machine for pain, have horses at home so constant period pants on plus pads etc as seems to have no rest.

Can’t go on HRT due to a blood clotting disorder so I’m also feeling absolutely fed up but trying to hang on for natural menopause rather than major open bowel and radical hysterectomy ovaries out etc.

I genuinely can’t see what troubles men have apart from peeing with a hard on. My husband moans something always hurts when I’m bad with endo flare or periods. I just get up and do it myself. Roll on menopause. Once I’m through it I’m having a blooming big party and possibly a divorce!
