To panic about what happened when cleaning my shower

I have been cleaning my bathroom today. I had some orange/pink type mould which was on the shower hose and some on the tiles. I had gloves on and had been cleaning it with a bleach spray. I took my gloves off when finished and some of the mould got on my hands from the glove and I have a cut on my finger. I’ve researched what it is and thinks it’s S. Mercescens. I washed my hands straight away but when I read about the mould it says it’s very dangerous and can cause serious infections and even death. I’m really worried now that it will have got into my blood stream. Does any one know about this type of mould. I’m really worried.

@IMustDoMoreExercise I don’t agree that most people have health anxiety. Yes, most people care whether they live or die and lots of people worry about health and risks to health. But health anxiety is irrational and all-consuming. HA is lying awake at night planning your funeral because you have had heartburn for a few days and are completely convinced it’s cancer which will kill you imminently. Or going for a scan where you are told everything looks fine and then going home and convincing yourself that the Dr was unqualified or wrong. It is a mental illness which sometimes needs intervention to prevent it from dominating people’s lives.

But the OP has not said anything like that.

She saw that she had a cut finger and was worried that the mould could have entered her bloodstream.

That is perfectly sensible and was why she started the thread rather than contacting her GP.

People making patronising comments about HA do not help.

OP does go on to say she has HA. It is not clear whether she has a diagnosis from the GP or whether she means "I am anxious about my health".

@BabyFireflyx If you have reported it and your landlord is refusing to do anything about it you can report to your council as environmental health can help. You can also claim compensation if it’s damaged your belongings and affecting your health and costing you money. You can do this if it’s been going on longer than 3 years. As it’s structural too it’s definitely your landlord’s responsibility. All information here

@IMustDoMoreExercise, the OP said she has health anxiety. Like many, I took that to mean that she has the mental illness which manifests as irrational thoughts and fears about illness and disease which are probably very low risk. So posters have tried to reassure the OP that the actual risk from something dangerous entering her bloodstream in this scenario is a minuscule risk of the type that most people don’t give any or much thought to.

I clean my shower, completely nude, while I’m IN the shower. So, no gloves and no fucks.

Mould of all colours sprays into my face. I choke on the fumes of my cleaning products. Sometimes I smell a bit like Method tbh.

I’ll probably be dead at 55. “Loving wife and mother. Very clean shower”.

Thanks. I do have a diagnosis of general anxiety but I definitely worry a lot about my health and over think things. I then turn to google which makes it worse. I posted on here as I needed some reassurance that the risk was low and that I didn’t need to worry about it. There has been lots of kind comments on here so thank you to everyone who has commented

Crikey - I didn't even know that pink stuff was mould, I thought it was limescale.

This! I have massive ick now whereas I was very happy bleaching off 'mould' 😂

If it is orangy-pink it's very unlikely to be Serratia marcescens. I have grown S. marcescens in the lab and it is intensely red, it's really quite striking.
Orange/pink is most likely some Methylobacterium and they are totally harmless.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 12/10/2023 20:59

I thinks it the bacteria from body fats and soap scum.
Orangey pink.
I don’t use bleach in the shower it attacks the grout and silicone seals. I use that mousse stuff, ‘Mr Muscle’ ‘Soap scum and Lime’, spray it on, leave it to do its job then rinse off.
