So neighbour has no car and is 80+. Driveway with dropped kerb across length of house . We parked across our drive and about 2 foot across hers . She has put cones up on her drive next to path as she doesn’t like people turning in her drive . She put note on car saying move out but literally taking up 2ft of 30 ft drive that no one uses . Aibu , she has called police .

OP posts:

Good on her! Shame on you for taking advantage of an elderly woman.

I hope the police tear strips off you.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 11/10/2023 21:33

I hope this is a reverse. Otherwise - OP, you’re a knob

Moonbowlspoon · 11/10/2023 21:43

Sorry, you lost me at “no diagram”.

Moonbowlspoon · 11/10/2023 21:45

Oh, and yes, you’re massively unreasonable. Have a word with yourself.

Spookymormonhelldream · 11/10/2023 21:47

Oh come on you know YABU that's why you haven't bothered with a diagram!

IGoWalkingAfterMidnight · 11/10/2023 21:49

I thought it wasn't an offence to park across a dropped kerb provided you're not preventing any vehicle leaving 🤔 On that basis, I guess YANBU.

KateReddy · 11/10/2023 21:49

She’s probably got spare bedrooms that she’s not using either, are you going to move in? 🙄

Daphnis156 · 11/10/2023 22:05

You sound entitled and unneighbourly.

Raincloudsonasunnyday · 11/10/2023 22:20

Going by the tenor of your post, if she has called the police it won’t be because the only thing you’ve ever done affecting her is park 2ft (bet it’s more) over her dropped curb.

It doesn't seem that unreasonable to block that amount of a very long dropped kerb, BUT legally you are not entitled to park where there is a dropped kerb - either hers or yours. I suspect the police might just explain that in the first instance, but it might be best to move the car just in case.

I don't know whether it is relevant here, but be aware that dropped kerbs are also of value to those with mobility scooters.

ActDottie · 11/10/2023 22:37

Don’t park over her drive. End of

What if a vehicle needs to enter? 😕

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz12 · 11/10/2023 22:41

Yes yabu. It doesn't matter whether she normally uses it, you shouldn't park over it! Maybe she was expecting visitors

IncompleteSenten · 11/10/2023 22:42

Don't park across someone's drive.

Mumof2teens79 · 11/10/2023 23:59

It's highway code and its a grey area
You can't park ao you are blocking entrance to a property...but if you are only overhanging a wide drive and a reasonable person could still access then you are not blocking

You cannot park across a dropped kerb....designed for wheelchairs and mobility scooters...its a grey area on whether a DK for a driveway counts.

Either way in most cases police have no powers, it would be for council to issue a FPN.

So yes she is being unreasonable but a lot of people would be.

NinNinJin · 12/10/2023 00:30

She hates you. Possibly has been for a long time. I cannot imagine anyone calling a police over this. Must be personal.

Coffeerum · 12/10/2023 09:11

@AnOldCynic Sounds like it's a 30ft wide dropped kerb.

This is incredibly unlikely.
