Feel useless and worthless

I'm a mum who's been out of work for over 20 years. Our choice as a family but now I feel like I've no prospects.
My sense of self worth is in the toilet. I keep looking at jobs but talk myself out of applying because I don't feel like anywhere will want me. I can't work in a pressurised environment as I go to pieces very easily. I'm terrified of interviews if I even get that far.

Anyone know of any jobs where its limited in human Interaction, easy or no interview, don't require references and won't make me feel like a worthless piece of crap? I'll wait

Have you thought about maybe doing some volunteering to give you some confidence back? It would also help with references for the future.

The other option is that there are also adult apprenticeships out there. Or do some study related to a field you're interested in.

If your confidence is really low then I think you need to take smaller steps to get to where you'd like to be. I didn't enter into any kind of proper career until I was 35 and i had imposter syndrome for a long time! but i got there in the end. Its never too late. When I was training for my profession we had people ranging from mid 20s to late 50's!

Volunteering and retraining/updating your skills will help a lot

@NeverWornACropTop is right, you should do some volunteering. There are loads of adverts on indeed.com if you're not sure where to look. Or you could go to read with children in your local primary? They always want helpers and who knows where it could lead? You're not worthless you're just stuck in a rut.
Good luck! Xx

Yep, I agree that volunteering is a great way in to building your confidence and moving towards work. You can also supplement that with (short) courses at a local college or online (there should be plenty of free stuff around).

You will probably need computer skills so start building these too (almost everything is available online somewhere).

Maybe concentrate on building some basic skills and experience until you feel more confident about applying for a job.

Whatever you do, enjoy it! I did a couple of years of voluntary work and courses between my last two jobs and it was way better than my actual paid work!
