Sick of being fat and hungry

ruthonfire · 10/10/2023 22:02

I am overweight. I eat too much of the wrong stuff. I binge on snacks. But I'm hungry always. Everyday I swear I'll try and improve my diet and eat more healthily but then I feel hungry and can't control my behaviours around food. I crave stodge and I just binge on it.

I need to seriously change my habits but how?

Sorry OP no answers, just wanting to piggy back.... following with interest

ruthonfire · 10/10/2023 22:06

It doesn't help that I don't have much going on in life and use food as a comfort and something to look forward too.

You're not actually hungry all the time. You're just not. You have to fight that urge and tell your brain to shut the fuck up frankly! Try Slimpod it worked well for me.

Thats the crux isn't it. Not hunger. Try and replace that comfort with something else..everytime you think about going to the kitchen walk out the front door instead and go for a walk. Pick up more hours at work, get a new hobby, do dog walking. Anything that involves distraction and is also healthy.

I don't buy biscuits - don't buy chocolate - can resist crisps if I'm shopping during the day but not a chance if it's a late evening shop and I'm already thinking I deserve a nibble and a drink - same with wine.
I think it's bread that's my downfall. Too quick - too cheap - too accessible.

B: fruit and yogurt/or pancakes. Sometimes toast or crumpets. Bacon butty at the weekend.

L: sandwich, salad or wrap. Crisps. Always followed by a coffee and a biscuit.

D: varies hugely but things like pasta, curries, sausage and mash, chicken dinner, burgers.

Snacks: crisps, biscuits, babybel, crackers and butter.

At weekends we always have a takeaway and a roast.

I try and get fruit in but I don't eat enough veg.

I'm just so frustrated with myself all the time. I enjoy food. I know I have to eat less and make a conscious effort to eat better food. But I just don't.

Just have weight loss surgery. Only thing that worked for me.

Awaits being piled on by posters saying "ffs, I can't believe you said just have weight loss surgery".

Mydogmybestfriend · 10/10/2023 22:15

You're bored and addicted to the sugar and salt

Try one thing - start the day with a small handful (approx 10-20) of almonds with their skins on. Then an hour later eat breakfast. Just by adding that small amount of fibre you will feel less hungry the whole day.

Mydogmybestfriend · 10/10/2023 22:16

Also don't keep sweet things at home

GreenTuraco · 10/10/2023 22:16

Ozempic

Neverimagined · 10/10/2023 22:16

You need to eat more protein. It's much more satisfying and filling than stodgy carbs. And I say that as a carb addict.

Idk I’ve struggled for years. I tried ozempic but it didn’t work. Orlistat kept the weight from getting too out of hand but I still had bad eating habits and was on it too long. I’m not big enough for a gastric band or anything and wouldn’t do it anyway. It’s a constant struggle. I have crap mental health and food is a massive crutch for me.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 10/10/2023 22:19

I do similar. One thing that helps me is porridge with half banana chopped up in morning and soup later in day. Porridge stops me being hungry with water all morning. I just can't stick to it! When I do it really starts dropping off.

BadBadDecisions · 10/10/2023 22:20

Your body is basically addicted to carbs and sugar and you need to give it a break. I was exactly the same - exactly the same.

I just had a lightbulb moment one day and didn't want to do it any more. I stopped having breakfast. I only eat lunch and tea. I don't count calories. After tea I brush my teeth so I don't eat more and have to do it again before bed.

I mostly stopped drinking at home, and now the weekly takeaway is more like monthly.

I've lost four stone - really slowly, but I don't think it's going back on which is the main thing.

It's awful to say it like this, but you just need to decide. Nothing ever worked well for me until one day I woke up and was ready.

Ivegotsunshineinabag · 10/10/2023 22:20

Also, as pp suggests, protein.
loads and loads.
and really really really trying.
I’ve never had weight loss surgery, because when I really really try I can lose weight. I struggle though.
But there is definitely a place for surgery if you can afford it.

Merryoldgoat · 10/10/2023 22:21

How far are you? Are you actually fat?

Ralphiesaurus · 10/10/2023 22:21

Cut out sugar and white flour. Google food addiction and/or Bright Lines Eating. I have yoyoed for years. I felt BLE was going to be too drastic/unrealistic for me so have been following slimming world (basically healthy eating) whilst also keeping an eye on minimising the amount of white flour and sugar (and sweeteners) I eat. For me (and listening to a lot of the people at group I am not alone in this) sugary and floury foods are massive triggers and mess up my hunger signals.

40lb down since April this year and I am no longer desperately hungry. In fact I actually know at mealtimes when I have eaten enough, which is a revelation.

Well she could go to Turkey and get it done for £3k. She can put that on an interest free credit card and in a years time it would have paid for itself on what she would have spent on unsuitable food, snacks, lunches out, meals out, takeaways and junk food.

redfacebigdisgrace · 10/10/2023 22:21

Too many carbs and sugar. You’re on a blood sugar yo-yo. Read glucose goddess on Instagram. Less bread/carbs & fruit, more vegetables and protein.

unsync · 10/10/2023 22:22

Slimpod will sort your head out, the rest will follow.

mummabubs · 10/10/2023 22:22

I've honestly found Noom really helpful as it's made me think about food in a different way. It's also been super helpful in terms of educating me about food, weight, and what my relationship with both of those looks like. I'm down 19lbs in 3 months.
