Crying over bad interview?

Thenumberofthings · 10/10/2023 20:55

I sounded nervous and I couldn’t answer one of the questions .. I attempted it but there was barely any response during the entire thing.

It was a second interview and I just feel shit, I was so hopeful because the job meant so much. I’m so depressed and checked out of my current job.

I am so sorry. Interviews are so stressful! I bet you did better than you thought though. Fingers crossed

YANBU to be upset and have a cry if you feel it went badly. Crying releases the stress hormone. However you probably did better than you think you did. We're almost always our own worst critic.

CyclingForSanity · 10/10/2023 21:27

You must have impressed them by getting a second interview so well done for that. Most good employers will allow for nerves but it's horrible when you think you've not done well. When will you know?

Ahjaysus23 · 10/10/2023 22:02

Ah OP, we've all been there. It probably wasn't as bad as you think. Try not to let it get you down.

I had an interview today as well, felt awful afterwards, hate interviews, this was 2nd interview but there wouldbe another round if i get through- then had a meeting straight after and missed a call - which was the hr lady, tried to call back after 5 but no reply - so I will find out tomorrow but I suspect it is a no as it was so soon after 🤮 hate the waiting!

Best of luck to you, it is rotten waiting!

I got a text from the recruiter to say I should hear back tomorrow. I feel sick.

OP if it goes the way you want it to - great! If not, don’t lose heart. There will be a job out there and in the meantime practice your interview skills. Some people offer interview coaching and it can be really useful!

Just been through 9 months of interviews before landing a new one after 6 1/2 years with current employer. So I've had 9 months of screwing up interviews, the nerves of waiting for a reply, getting to final stage numerous times only to be pipped to the post etc. You have to view each one as practice for the job that you eventually get and they are definitely a learning experience. Have a cry today then brush yourself off, re-visit your CV and reflect on where you could have improved so that it doesn't happen again.
Good luck!

Was it a phone/virtual interview or face to face?

From an interviewer perspective, I find it hard to offer any response during a phone interview because usually I'm just nodding along and maybe taking notes. During a face to face I think it's much clearer that I'm listening to you!

You won't have sounded as nervous to them as you did to yourself. Even if you did sound nervous, that's perfectly normal in an interview situation.

Wishing you luck OP & YANBU to cry afterwards, it's good to let your emotions out

So the first interview was face to face and the second was virtual and I had to present.

It’s just frustrating when I tripped over a question and now I’ve thought about it, it was so easy. But yeah everyone is right, it’s practice and hopefully the nerves will lessen.

I got to the next round!

Amazing! Good luck with the next round, I had to do three interviews for my current job and it felt like many hurdles at the time so you’re doing amazing.
