To call in the Ghostbusters re: mysterious pools of water in the kitchen

No idea where these have come from... I took a bath shortly beforehand and the kitchen is directly under the bathroom but no leaks from the bath or water over the side. In the kitchen, there was no water on the ceiling or on the walls... any ideas? Not sure if we should be calling in a plumber or the supernatural crew. It didn't smell of Radox 🤔👀

Dry it up and see if it comes back

Thedm · 09/10/2023 19:28

It seems to be coming upwards, between the tiles. You may have pipes running under the floor and that could be where the water is leaking from. Get someone out to check.

Desecratedcoconut · 09/10/2023 19:29

Check your fridge for Zuul. Best of luck.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/10/2023 19:34

Nah, I'd move out.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 09/10/2023 19:41

I seem to remember or have completely imagined an episode of strange but true where a woman had water pools on her floor that kept coming back, it turned out there was bodies or something along those lines under the floor please tell me someone else remembers this??

Janicepalace · 09/10/2023 19:45

This happened to me once after a bath and I couldn’t see anything coming through the ceiling at all. I finally noticed a few drips of water coming through the spotlights in the kitchen. I’d run the bath and see if it’s the same for you.. (turn your lights off while you do it just incase)

Steev · 09/10/2023 19:45

I agree check the lights and see if they're wet

Usernamqwerty · 09/10/2023 19:48

Thanks. We checked the lights but they were all dry - it's so weird! I wondered about it coming up through the floor but the tiles are all sealed.

Think I have watched too many paranormal shows and thinking we have a poltergeist... 😂

Bloody hell, I hope not!! Have lived here for 7 years so no sign of bodies yet 😛

Have you got an ice machine?

EvilElsa · 09/10/2023 19:51

I'd be less worried about ghosts and more worried about the cost to fix whatever is going on!!!!

HelenaJustina · 09/10/2023 19:52

Water will make its way up through grout/sealant once the underlying concrete is saturated. Suspect you have a leak under the floor…

Paininthederriere · 09/10/2023 19:53

What kind of floor is under the tiles /floor covering? I had old quarry tiles which need to breathe covered over with laminate from previous owners which caused damp. Or do you have underfloor heating & burst pipe?

FOJN · 09/10/2023 19:54

The distribution of the water makes it look like it's dripped from above and splattered but surely it's source would be obvious if that was the case.

Do you have a dishwasher? The copper pipe behind mine developed a pinhole leak which resulted in a small kitchen water feature.

Foreverdecorating · 09/10/2023 19:55

Fridge ice/water dispenser?

EvilElsa · 09/10/2023 19:55

I also think you've got a potential underfloor leak/cracked pipe.

FOJN · 09/10/2023 19:55

Is it possible that water from a bathroom leak has run down the inside of the wall and is leaking from under the skirting board?

rurbane · 09/10/2023 19:57

Have you got a water drain tray at the back of your fridge? Or inside the fridge at the bottom? This might be blocked or need emptying. I had this, and the water was overflowing into the tiles and travelling a few feet along the grouting before reappearing. Like yours it looked like pools of water were appearing from nowhere.

anon0007 · 09/10/2023 19:58

It's likely your outside drain op and it's coming up through the floor

Usernamqwerty · 09/10/2023 20:01

Thanks for all your suggestions... hmmmm, a few possiblities here. It's not near the fridge or the dishwasher. I have no idea about pipes under the floor. Will have a ponder. Thanks for your input!

That's precisely it... they appeared to come from no-where. So weird! I'll have a look around the fridge and dishwasher again...

Oh man, I hope not! It was clear and smelt like... plain water really.

Dry it off.
Tape some plastic over the guilty area (so it is 100% sealed).
Run a bath.

See if next lot water is above or below the plastic.

This will determine if your ghost is above your head or below your feet.

anon0007 · 09/10/2023 20:06

It happened to us recently and clear water was coming through the floor in random places downstairs.

You would need a drain person to check, we phoned the recommended company on our house insurance. Didn't claim and just paid, I think we were £80 but not had a problem since.
