To ask about vitamins and supplements

What vitamins and supplements do you take, why and do you think they actually do anything?

I'm thinking of starting vitamin D, as I do not always get decent sunlight and the season is changing. I'm not sure if I will feel any impact from taking or not taking it.

Depends how old you are. I’m taking supplements for peri that have worked.

Ladybirdladybirdx · 08/10/2023 23:00

I think for adults in the UK it was recommended to take a vitamin D tablet from October-March time. I had low vitamin D and since taking the supplement I can feel the difference. Recommend to take a B12 supplement if over the age of 50.

Apparently there is no clear proof that multivitamins have any benefits

Ladybirdladybirdx · 08/10/2023 23:02

As in the multivitamin gummies you can get

Ladybirdladybirdx · 08/10/2023 23:03

Not sure why that comment was hidden. I mean the multi vitamin gummy type ones.

I think everyone in the world is vitamin D deficient so that's reasonable.

Everything else should be after a full bloods and at the recommendation of your doctor.

WellWoman range of vitamins is excellent, as is taking a good dose of Vit C and D. Take every morning after breakfast. You’ll see a big difference.

I take vitamin D, except I forgot this week and yesterday night got those deep bone aches that keep you awake at night. (Classic Vit D deficiency symptom) I had them all day today then remembered I'd forgotten to take the supplement. Took it and the bone aches are gone.

I also take B complex and magnesium and LTyrosine all of which help with depression and adhd though what I notice most is they make my hair thicker.

I take Vitamin D in the autumn / winter months.

Im considering cod liver oil.

toomanyleggings · 08/10/2023 23:47

I take Alive multi vitamins, dim supplements for my hormone imbalance, pms, and acne, calcium glucorate and lysine for my cold sore battle. Considering adding in some chasteberry

RubyRubyRubyRubay · 08/10/2023 23:49

Vit D
Liquid iron

Get the best quality you can afford as it makes a difference.
These both definitely boost my energy levels after being low in both only a year ago. My nails are growing strong now too which is a nice side effect!

Look at omega 3 instead if it’s for joint pain. I took cod liver oil for years, but omega 3 made the biggest difference.

ThreeRingCircus · 09/10/2023 07:46

I take Vitamin D (on advice of my GP following a blood test) and noticed a huge difference to my energy levels and aches and pains. But I was deficient before.

A multivitamin (I alternate these and vitamin D days so I'm not having too much)

Omega 3 for brain health.

Turmeric and collagen for joints.

Apple cider vinegar for digestion.

It's only vitamin D I really notice the difference with but I'm rarely ill and don't think taking the others can hurt.

professionalnomad · 09/10/2023 13:49

Pregnacare breastfeeding ones

napody · 09/10/2023 13:53

Vit d oct-march
Vit c with zinc- I stopped getting mouth ulcers after starting the zinc.
I feel as if I catch colds less and fight them off quicker than I used to- but that's hard to know for sure. The mouth ulcers was a clear change though- from frequently to not getting one for about 4 years now

LadyBird1973 · 09/10/2023 14:24

I take Vit D (must be taken with K2 to avoid calcium deposits in the wrong places)

Also take a B complex, a testosterone support (from willpowders because I'm on HRT but testosterone levels are low and am waiting on referral to menopause specialist), and magnesium (supposed to aid sleep)
I sometimes take iron as I tend to run low.

In all honesty I don't know if any of it is doing anything much or if it's diet and HRT that are making a difference.

Needeyebrows · 09/10/2023 14:38

Vitamin D
Magnesium
B complex
Omega 3 Fish oils

Honestly dont know if they are working. Need to take iron but I find it to harsh and gives me constipation.
