Would you see a doctor for this?

I was using a child's pair of scissors last week and they got a bit wedged on my thumb near the base of the joint.

Since then, my thumb has been a bit numb from the base up to the nail. I have full movement but it feels like the skin surface is a bit tingly when touched and dull in sensation.

I thought it might just naturally ease and maybe I pinched a nerve or something, but it's been about 10 days now and still feels exactly the same.

As it's been longer than a week I'd either see my GP or ask a pharmacist for advice.

No, I would forget about it and I’m certain that in a week or two I’d think to myself “oh, my thumb stopped doing that thing”.

octodrive · 08/10/2023 18:47

It wouldn't even cross my mind tbh.

Realistically what do you think they are likely to do other than suggest pain killers if needed?

I know that sounds harsh and I don't mean it to but I can't seem to word it any better

Put some ice on it and keep it moving. I doubt theres a lot a doctor would do, they're hardly going to fast track you to a surgeon. It needs time to heal, these things can take a while I think

A trip to the pharmacist wouldn't harm, they're best placed to let you know if it needs further attention I'd say. Hope it heels soon.

I did this many years ago when chopping something while preparing dinner, I had a numb/tingly finger for years! It got better in time but it literally took years. Was very odd. Not sure what a GP could do, if you do see one I'd be interested in knowing what they say, to satisfy my years-old curiosity!

Personally? No. Unless it looked infected?

Could always check with a pharmacist.
