I had dry socket earlier this year. Awful and very painful. Had it out on a Thursday before the long Easter weekend and went back on the Tuesday to get sorted.
get a dentist appointment tomorrow if still in pain and they will give you some stuff to put on it.

I had dry socket last year, I don't think that looks like mine did, it was more like a black hollow hole but it's hard to say.

Pain wise it was really painful but i wasn't sure if I was just being a wuss or if I was really suffering if that makes sense

I suffered all weekend with mine and got to the dentist eventually who just said to keep up with pain relief and put some clove dressing in it which was almost as bad as the pain! I don't think there's much a dentist can do other than that but they did give me anti biotics so it is worth going if you are concerned.

It's gross and hard to see cos it was at the back of my mouth but that's what mine looked like which was dry socket

It doesn’t seem much like a hole but confused as to why it’s this colour

Have you been mouthwashing with salt water?

When I had dry socket it was noticeably yellow and gunky inside. Although everyone says it’s excruciatingly painful it actually didn’t hurt that much, my jaw and mouth was quite tender from the extraction though. Get some salt water just very gently swilling/held over the area, several times a day.

Yeah I have

You're supposed to have the layer of whiteish yellow gunk over it, its granulation tissue, the beginning of the healing process. It will form over the clot and then the wound will begin to close over, re-absorbing the clot and granulation tissue as it goes.

Doesn't look like dry socket to me but get dentist to check if you're worried. I think you'd know though, it's horrendous pain, dry socket.

Dry socket is unbearably painful you would know, get seen ASAP but to avoid it developing

I had dry socket last week and it was honestly the worse pain ever!! Worse than the really bad tooth ache i had prior to the tooth being removed! That doesn't look like mine did. Mine was more a yellow colour and dried up with bone visible. The dentist said after tooth is removed it should form a red jelly like clot.

Theoscargoesto · 08/10/2023 20:44

If it isn’t dry socket, please try to leave it alone! You need the clot to stay in place to start healing, so be really gentle with salt water rinsing, and don’t poke at it.

If it is dry socket, you’ll be on a lot of pain, probably have a horrid taste in your mouth. Get through tonight and see your dentist tomorrow evening just to set your mind at rest.
