Pairs of pyjamas and other things

How many pairs of pjs does your child/children have?
Just trying to cut back and avoid unnecessary spending each new season on clothes. I used to get lots of clothes for my Dd, now 5, as I enjoyed it, I still do, but realise she grows out of things so quickly and to try and be smart with money. I’m thinking of autumn/winter though and she’ll still need a fair bit. What do you buy and how about small things like pjs etc? I plan to get family Christmas pjs (I know, I know 🙄😅) but Dd has begged for Bluey ones and it’s a small thing to do to brighten up the winter nights I guess. So I think I’ll buy another winter pair for her, slippers, but will also need:

New winter coat (she has two that are ok but I like a new one too)
winter boots (she’s just had new trainers, but will need boots)
A few jumpers 🤷🏻‍♀️One will be a Christmas one
Tights
Two winter dresses (likely Christmas and party one too)
Hat, scarf, glove sets x 2
She has leggings, jeans and joggers etc that still fit and lots of new knickers & socks, plus she’s just had new wellies

This is me trying to cut it down to the minimum, but I’m sure she’ll need more.
The other issue is, I’m overseas so it’s not colder until November, then starts to warm up end April ish

What do you buy? Does this list look not enough at all?

Do other people have like a new set of pjs each night? It’s so hot here for 6 odd months of the year that she has lots of simple t-shirt/vest & short pjs, but winter I’m not sure

you say you want to be smart with money, and you want to cut to minimum and avoid unnecessary spending. And your post includes xmas jumpers, xmas pjs, and another winter coat when she has two. if you need to be careful with money, you can cut that stuff ..

That looks like plenty!

New winter coat - DD has one winter coat plus a rain coat. She wears the raincoat and a fleece if her winter coat needs a wash. I've never bought her 2 winter coats.

winter boots (she’s just had new trainers, but will need boots) - yes, same

A few jumpers 🤷🏻‍♀️One will be a Christmas one - I try to get a seasonal one (penguins, snowflakes) rather than an overtly "Christmas" one se she can wear it until spring.

Tights - not an issue, DD won't wear them.

Two winter dresses (likely Christmas and party one too) - not really an issue as DD won't wear dresses, I'll get her a nice top to wear instead.

Hat, scarf, glove sets x 2 - don't need new every year so DD's sorted. Although none of hers are "sets".

She has leggings, jeans and joggers etc that still fit and lots of new knickers & socks, plus she’s just had new wellies.

DD has 4 sets of long pj's and 4 sets of short ones for the warmer nights. That's because of my washing schedule though as her clothes tend to be light colours or pink and I don't wash those often. Usually wears them 3-6 nights.

My children have 2 pairs of pjs each. They wear them for 4-5 days.
I wouldn’t buy a new coat, my kids wear the one from last year if it fits.
I also wouldn’t but winter boots but I live in England and it’s never that cold.
They have one hat and one scarf. I have a drawer of odd gloves they can use.
They don’t have winter dresses as such, they quite often stick a jumper over a dress and put tights with it.

I don’t know how useful my list is really. You could always get extra off Vinted or eBay if you need more.

My DDs have one thick winter coat, then one fleece and a rain coat which can layer. They also have a gilet so on really cold days they can put fleece, then gilet, then winter coat. Usually I get 2 winters out of each. We also have waterproof trousers/dungarees.

I get a pack of 3 pairs of mittens each, then one scarf and 2 hats. Last winters will fit this year absolutely fine - I usually get 2/3 winters out of each.

They then have 2 fleeces each, and a couple of jumpers/hoodies. So 4 in total.

4 pairs of thick leggings.

4 long sleeved tops.

3 long sleeved thick winter dresses, plus 2/3 party dresses.

Then we always have thermals, and vests.

PJs - they have 5 or 6 pairs but mine are still wearing Christmas 2021's PJs so they last a while! They always get a new pair at Christmas, plus usually one or two pairs each year. We're in a cold place though (in case you can't tell from the above!) so no need for summer PJs.

We also have a onesie for cold days, plus fleece lined crocs instead of slippers.

Then wellies, winter boots (fancy ones that double up as party shoes), school shoes and trainers.

Mine are in school uniform though most of the time. If they weren't in uniform we might need a bit more.

@Toohardtofindaproperusername Thats why I’m saying maybe just two pairs of pjs (can still wear the Christmas ones after Christmas)
Christmas jumpers are usually fairly reasonable -€10 and is a fun thing she’d like.
In terms of coats, one in a rain coat and fairly thing-do more for March ish, the other a cheap puffa type jacket. She had a beautiful fleece lined one that lasted twin years, but it’s pushing it to do another, I’d like a similar style but a new one that hopefully lasts another two years or so

@PipersDream Yes, true regarding the Christmas jumper-her one last year was pale blue with a penguin I think, so she wore until around March

Re Christmas jumper... try second hand. They are often like new!

WhoHidTheCoffee · 05/10/2023 21:55

For long pyjamas, my DC have several pairs but they are not completely reliable in terms of toileting/younger one wears a night nappy which occasionally leaks, breakfast gets spilled, etc. For summer pyjamas, which we don’t need so many of, I aim for three pairs - one on, one in the wash, one spare. Like bedding 😊

I wouldn’t bother with a new winter coat if her existing one still fits.

Mine definitely have more clothes than they need, and I think it’s easy to buy too much with a first/only child - my second is mainly in hand me downs.

I wouldn’t bother with more than 2/3 jumpers unless she wears them every day. Mine much prefer hoodies.

WeWereInParis · 05/10/2023 22:00

Hat, scarf, glove sets x 2

Why 2 sets of those? One hat, scarf and pair of gloves should be fine I think. Definitely just one hat and scarf.

DailyMailHater · 05/10/2023 22:08

Our rule for pyjamas was always 3 pairs
1 you are wearing
1 in the wash
and 1 clean in drawer

This was my grandma way of doing it and works well

JamMakingWannaBe · 05/10/2023 22:21

DC have 3 sets each of long sleeved, full leg PJs, and 3 sets of shortie PJs. They can mix and match.
They wear PJs twice in a row and I think they could/should wear x 3 nights.
Young children do not sweat in the same way teenagers/ adults do.
