My ds is 11.5 months. He has diarrhoea the last few weeks, it’s been checked and results normal. In the last few days it’s also stopped a bit and seems more normal. He was eating and drinking fine the entire time. Anyway, the last two days he’s been so sleepy and face v v hot. Totally unlike him. Other than that he’s totally normal and eating and drinking. He doesn’t seem to be teething. I’ve given him calpol as he was so hot but today after lunch he was slumped on me, totally unlike him, I could wake him but it took a few seconds. Usually he’s very awake and alert at the slightest sound. He’s had dinner again tonight and went to sleep fine. I’m so worried though.

Hiya. First time mum here as well, though with a DC who is a bit older than yours. Whilst I have learned that 99% of the time there's a simple answer to children's ailments, also absolutely trust your gut about things. I'd ring 111 for some advice and go from there. Have you kept a diary of what they've eaten/ drunk over the past few weeks, noted roughly when they're napping each day and for how long so you can track behaviours. Also maybe track his temperature and see what tends to be his normal. It helps doctors who are investigating if they've got a pattern of behaviour to review, and thus make a more accurate assessment. Try not to worry, most likely he's absolutely grand, but best to set your mind at ease :)

If he's slumping over and unusually drowsy then yes, seek medical help - 111 or out of hours GP

Great that he’s eating! Don’t bother with 111, he’s under 12 months so they’ll want to see him. I’d go straight to A&E. DS was like this at 8mo and he had Covid. All fine in the end. Use full sugar Calpol if you can.

111

If you’re worried, get him checked. Follow your instincts.

Anecdotally my ds used to get very tired during teething and sleep loads. Much better than dd who screamed like a wild thing…. But don’t take the word of an internet stranger!

Mine had very hot cheeks etc when teething .
Try not to worry too much, doesn’t sound so bad ( easier said than done ) , but you’re his mother and know your baby .
Trust your instinct that he’s slightly off and get him checked .
Good luck and take care .

Would you go to a and e tonight? He’s asleep now and I keep going in to check but he does feel very hot

Has he recently started childcare? My winter born eldest picked up some awful germs when she started nursery in the autumn.

We ended up going to A&E as she was exhausted and not eating, it turned out to be tonsillitis and she was fine after a course of antibiotics.

Is he taking in plenty of fluids? Is he just tired or really drowsy? It’s hard to know when they’re so little but if you’re worrying trust your instincts.

You could try ringing 111- we did this once at night and they gave us an out of hours gp appointment. Failing that you could take him to a&e.

It sounds like the two things are unrelated, the upset tummy and the fever.

You say hot, have you taken a temp.

That aside nobody will ever ever criticise a mum for worrying about a baby.

Call for advice. NHS 24.
