She was only 19 and subjected to horrendous sexual harrassment by her boss. He’s still not been named 3 years later. The military is there to protect the country but what about the young people who serve?

Why are these young women not being adequately protected from these vile predators? Surely in serious cases like this, justice must be seen to be done?

The same people who have always had power still have it. That's true in other English-speaking countries, but there, there are politicians, civil service people, and activists who devote themselves to holding the old boys to account. In the UK, a complacent and uninvolved public, austerity, and a succession of major political crises for over a decade mean that no one is paying attention.

The incredibly high rates of depression and anxiety in the UK, the many people who leave work because of bullying, the many younger people who can't even get rental housing let alone buy, the people who can't get anywhere because of a broken transportation system, the lack of preparation for Brexit that has left us with far too few NHS staff, and on and on. There are so many crises and no funding or time to deal with any of them because all of the attention is on the consequences of Brexit and the energy crisis we're also in because of a lack of preparation and investment.

This poor girl's situation will get a few days coverage. Her boss may have to deal with consequences. But the changes in the military and in attitudes in the public that should be made won't be because no one has any money or time to make them.

Poor wee girl. Let's hope her death sees some major changes in the military.

RIP sister. Until the final RV.

I was just reading this article. That poor girl, it is horrendous what she went through. Of course he is still being protected, sickening.

AlisonDonut · 04/10/2023 08:25

Of course he hasnt been named.

It might damage his career.

It's a total disgrace. He'd sent her 3,500 texts in one month!!

Heard this on the radio this morning and it made me so incredibly sad, especially her telling her DM she knew there was no point in reporting him as she wouldn't be believed and nothing would be done. My dd wants to go into a career where sexual harrassment/bullying is rife and I'm incredibly worried about her.

Jellycats4life · 04/10/2023 09:02

Absolutely appalling story.

She felt she couldn’t report the relentless harassment because another senior had groped her, forcing her to sleep in her car that night as she was terrified he’d come into her room and assault her again.
