Colleagues gorgeous 1 Yr old boy visits us with his dad here and there. I always give him cuddles as he is just adorable and I love babies. However, I don't want my own. My colleague keeps saying 'Can tell how broody you are' and 'You so want a baby of your own don't you?'
Firstly I am 38 so not really something I am thinking about at this point in time and secondly, she knows I don't want any of my own.
Aibu to be a bit irritated?

I would imagine your body language in always loving giving him cuddles is just being interpreted by her as wanting a child. I wouldn't read too much into it but I'm not sure I'd be irritated?

People say dumb shit all of the time rather than listen to silence. That's all this is. She doesn't actually care if you want kids/don't want kids she's just filling the silence.

Notimeforaname · 02/10/2023 22:40

Yes people say it a lot to me because I work with kids but dont have any.

My partner actually gets a worse time from his male boss.
The man just cant understand why we wont be having children.

He seems to think we'll have no control over it and its 'coming'?🤣
He seems desperate for partner to experience sleepless nights, less holidays etc. Its clearly the man projecting what he misses and keeps telling my partner he cant live like this forever the "gravy train will end when the kids come along".. it's a bit mental.

But, this man is a bit of a pig, he'll often look for extra work to do,to avoid going home to his kids too early. 🙄

It might be worth pointing out to her how completely tactless this sort of comment can be. Suppose you had changed your mind and did want a child, but were having difficulty conceiving, it would be very hurtful.

PinkRiceKrispies · 03/10/2023 08:54

Well that as well @lanthanum .
But it just irritates me how some women assume you must just be desperate for a baby. Many don't want kids of their own but some are in the position where they really want one but can't due to various reasons.

Well I don't think your age matters so much, lots of women have babies at 38 or older. Also most women who don't want babies don't like holding them, in my experience anyway. But yeah she shouldn't keep going on about it. Maybe you might have to stop holding her baby for her to stop
