Can't wait to tune into this week's conference for the next desperate attempts at gaslighting and catchy slogans...

Careful, Liz Truss might read that.

@Fififafa / but we have always been at war with Oceania

CCHQ or Minitrue? Who can tell these days.

bombastix · 02/10/2023 13:41

My fees are very reasonable if the Conservatives need help

As seen on Politics Live earlier…
Jo Coburn "Rishi Sunak says he's ending the war on motorists. Why have you been waging a war on motorists for the last 13 years?"
Andrea Leadsom "That's not the case"
Jo Coburn "Well, what is it your ending then?"
The Tories are a joke. Bring on the general election!

GrinGrinGrin

I genuinely LOLed at that.

Enjoy Starmers tax hikes for all ...

Levels of taxation are higher than EVER under this govt. After 13 years they haven't done anything about it. Yet you still believe the drivel about them bring a low tax party?! Lol
Even more insulting, despite the historically high tax levels, public services are absolutely crap.

But well....you'd better be scared of Starmer!! 🙄 beeen reading the DM I think.

MagpiePi · 02/10/2023 13:51

At least the Tories have cracked down on tax evaders....oh, wait....

https://www.ft.com/content/2b571f7c-6ba5-489f-9450-ac952be9e27d

The UK tax authority has prosecuted only eight cases in the past two years for the enabling of tax evasion, despite pledging to pursue the lawyers, accountants and financial institutions that help clients carry out tax fraud.

I suppose their buddies need to hang onto that money now that the free money for non-existent covid related contracts has dried up.

emmylousings · 02/10/2023 13:51

Also want to point out that most of us normal people pay a higher nominal rate of tax (relative to income) than Rishi and probably all the Tory cabinet. The UK tax system is designed like that, on purpose.

An utterly fuckwitish thing to post really, and one that shows you have absolutely zero understanding of anything.

maybewhoknows · 02/10/2023 14:08

Oh look a new slogan for the conference

"Long Term Decisions for a Brighter Future."

Let them never be accused of 'Desperate and Random Non-Decisions for Re-election." JH is about to speak after all.

Retinal implants for GB News on the NHS; no waiting list

noblegiraffe · 02/10/2023 14:14

Perhaps they could mix the school and motorist announcement and unban mobiles for drivers?

Nothing worse for drivers than not being able to Snapchat at the wheel. The Tories will end these woke restrictions on freedom of speech.

bombastix · 02/10/2023 14:17

@maybewhoknows - unfortunate reminder of the House of Cards when Henry Collinridge succeeds Thatcher and his slogan is "The Right Way".

Only time will tell who is the Francis Urqhart of the pack.

Changes17 · 02/10/2023 14:23

I suppose their buddies need to hang onto that money now that the free money for non-existent covid related contracts has dried up.

There's always more where that came from, @MagpiePi . They were probably involved in building HS2 somewhere along the line - and now won't need to build it but will somehow get to keep the money. Or RAAC contracts.

TheSpruce · 02/10/2023 14:36

Some golden oldies thrown in too about those lazy benefit claimants needing to get back to work. If us plebs work harder, we can fix this economy don't you know 🙄

jlpth · 02/10/2023 14:39

We're fucked whichever party gets in.

They're all shit.

If there was a party that wasn't shit, then they would have been elected.

The last election was a choice of BJ and JC (shit and shitter). Fucking hell, I couldn't bring myself to vote. Most people were voting for the least bad option.

We are so lucky to have a PM to save us from non-existent things whilst refusing to answer any questions at all about the HS2 his government promised. What could possibly go wrong?

Yeah, I can't wait for him to 'save' us from cuts to public transport

Can't wait. Ideally he'll put CGT back on an equal footing with income tax. That way people who make their money through property speculation (let's face it, you have to be wealthy to be in that game) won't get unfair tax perks.

Oh, and fuel duty has been frozen for far too long. We need the funding for public transport.

Come to think of it, they should apply fuel duty to aviation too, and impose a frequent flier levy. Plenty of taxes I could get behind.

Greedybilly · 02/10/2023 14:48

He really is a complete cock womble. The sooner they're gone the better!

Echobelly · 02/10/2023 14:55

The Tories are all about the wrong solutions to the wrong problems

They think our problems are:

  • Refugees - no, only the government's terrible administration and inability to accept and be positive about new arrivals
  • 'No one wants to work anymore' - yes they do, but our productivity parameters are totally outdated and don't account for the digital economy. But the Tories think the answer is fewer rights for workers so they'll be 'more productive', which is not how it works
  • 'Wokeness is a threat to our culture' - bit rich calling social consciousness a threat to our culture while slashing arts funding and slagging off and depriorotising arts and humanities degrees because 'they don't lead to high paid jobs'.

No, our real problems are:

  • Climate change
  • An aging demographic (which they'll never say because that's their voter base) and;
  • How AI and automation can be incorporated into the economy without decimating jobs, and ensuring businesses that benefit have to pull their weight in paying for potential negative consequences
Changes17 · 02/10/2023 17:52

Ah, according to a fairly hilarious interview on PM (Radio 4) a little earlier, the Tories are going to protect us against 'some councils' who want to tell us how often we can go to the shops.

Political interviews don't usually make me laugh out loud but the interviewee (Andrew Bowie, an energy security minister) sounded properly batty. Apparently this is what some people on the doorsteps think is meant by 15 minute neighbourhoods - and the Tories are not disillusioning them because they think they can use it to score some points. We're in conspiracy theory central at this point!
