To be off work sick with a cold for a week?

I feel like I'm being dramatic but I still don't feel well and I'm meant to be due back at work. I've still got the cold, just obviously not as bad as it's been a few days, but I feel absolutely knackered and wiped out from it. The thought of doing a full days work right now just makes me feel worse. My head feels fuzzy and I feel exhausted.

I'm convinced it's possibly been covid I've had, as I've never been this ill from a cold before. Was actually debating whether or not to go to the doctors but obvs don't want to waste their time if it's just a cold.

AIBU? I feel like I just need to suck it up and get on with it.

I obviously won't get paid now from work, I do claim universal credit though, does anybody know if this will adjust as my earnings will be down?

You don't get sick pay?

You need a different job!

Definitely take a covid test. The new strain isn't very nice & is rife at the moment

MyCircumference · 04/10/2023 07:17

plenty of jobs dont have sick pay
regarding universal credit, it cant hurt to contact them @doi24

Colds tend to floor me tbh. Rarely get tummy bugs and the like, but a heavy cold can knock me out for a week.

If you're not well, you're not well. Stay home. Plus I'm sure colleagues don't want you sneezing all over them and their desks.

I’m on week 3 of it. Have really struggled in work. Had to leave a meeting early last week as was so unwell. Yet still expected to come in . All covid tests negative.

should Definitely take the time off to recover and throw in morning sickness in there so pregnancy related and employer can’t use it against you :)

Sorry me again. If my sick note is dated until the 9th, do I go back to work on that date or is it the 10th?

The fit note normally states the inclusive dates during which you are not fit for work. It states 'this will be the case from (date) to (date)'. So if it states 9 Oct as the latest date this means it includes this date and you would should return to work only on 10 Oct.

Most fit notes look like the attached, the info in Section 5 cover the entire sickness period meaning you are not fit to work for this period including the stated dates.

Get tested, or get back to work, either way, man up, go to work. Simple. 2023 seems to be the year of the ‘what reason can I possibly give for not doing my paid job’!
No wonder employers are being more diligent on new placement interview / questioning techniques!

This is nonsense. Nobody should take any chances with their health when they are pregnant, for those few short months the woman's health is the top priority. And employers just need to suck it up. It is obvious OP is unwell and needs to not be working.

When I was pregnant I felt ill but felt that I 'ought' to go to work when I was pregnant. I saw the doctor only after I finished work....good thing I did because it turned out I had severe pre-eclampsia. I don't want to alarm anyone...but I would urge any pregnant woman now to prioritise their health and never feel guilty about it. BTW OP is not a man so doesn't need to 'man up'.

As someone else has say if the sick note has the 9th wrote on it that includes the 9th you return to work on the 10th or get another sick note starting the 10th.
