I had a day off on Tuesday and OP has been moaning all weekend that I didn't use it to tidy the house. Don't know why as he's not been tidying the house today either! Aibu to not to have used my day off to tidy? I did do a few chores just not tidy the house.

Was it an annual leave day or a normal day off?

dayofcheese · 01/10/2023 15:41

annual leave

Not at all, it's your day off, do what you want with it, just allow your OH the same.

Blueeyes13 · 01/10/2023 15:43

Annual leave is for recharging batteries and having a break, so I wouldn't expect to be doing much around the house. This is encouraged by the organisation I work for.

Thanks. Yes it's not like I insist he use his annual leave cleaning.

What a moaner!
Do you insist he tidies up during his annual leave?

UsingChangeofName · 01/10/2023 15:45

Feel there's quite a bit of 'it depends' here, and some back story.

So, for me, no, I usually take AL for days when I want to do something else - go to something outside the house / go on holiday / meet up with someone. But I tend to do my tidying / sorting / cleaning as I go along.

FoxClocks · 01/10/2023 15:45

Why did you take the AL day?

PTSDBarbiegirl · 01/10/2023 15:47

If you want a life of servitude then bend to his demands. It's your day off fuck what he wants you to do. Tell him to pay for a cleaner if he wants house cleaned or he can do it on his own days off. Share the jobs or give him a list of cleaners numbers.

To do nothing

Has any man alive ever taken a day’s annual leave to do cleaning? I seriously doubt it. Yanbu.

To do nothing

And why not 😁?

Blueeyes13 · 01/10/2023 15:50

And why not 😁?

Yeah exactly. As it happens I did some of the washing. But the whole point for me, given that we have a small child, was to do nothing.

For me this is the best thing of living alone, no one to answer to, my cleaning patterns and routines have completely changed, as in doing a lot less, and so much happier for it.

dayofcheese · 01/10/2023 15:47

To do nothing

Which is grand, and I'm all for BUT if a poster put on here

"We both WOTH, we have a small child. The housework is never done. My partner had a day's AL yesterday and just went on the playstation all day, and has done nothing on the house"

then he would have been slated.

So it goes back a bit to the "it depends" answer.....

cardibach · 01/10/2023 16:41

He wouldn’t have been slated by me, @UsingChangeofName
AL is for rest and recuperation.

Lemon23 · 01/10/2023 16:45

YANBU, you took the day off to do nothing so why spend it tidying? I need an occasional day off just to do nothing, it's very important for my well-being, I wouldn't like anyone trying to guilt me into cleaning during my day off.

I might have used a Leave Day for something special in the garden, or getting things from loft. When we had older cars DH might have a day off for changing exhaust system and other car jobs. That grey Cortina Estate ate parts.

Yes I have often taken a day off and done some DIY.

Some days you take annual leave to do something specific, some days you take annual leave to do something in the house and some days you take annual leave to do nothing. I took some annual leave the other week to do some organising. DH is saying he might take some annual leave to do some tip runs. If we use those days to sit around and watch Netflix - probably be a bit pissed off. However, we both take days to just do nothing. I’m planning a do nothing except watch shit Christmas films on Netflix day and a get sorted for Christmas Day in the couple of days before Christmas and DH knows that I’ll get done what I can get done but I will be binge watching some really rubbish Christmas movies.
