To be in pain after attempting to use a moon cup/menstrual cup?

I decided to try the mooncup/menstrual cup. Both the moon and the boots version. I've had 2 children, in my 30's and used tampons for a long time so I'd think I wasn't particularly 'tight' down there but I had to fold the cup in to 3 to get it to go in. I thought I'd try the cup as so many people had said great things but OUCH! I'm left feeling bruised and sore. AIBU to feel this way? Is it just me? Is there a sizing issue or does it just take a while to get used to? I have a high pain threshold but it was genuinely very painful and now sore. 😫

I have heard of this before. You may need a visit to the GP or whomever you see in the UK for female reproductive issues. We all have the same general anatomy but sometimes women have uterus that is tipped or cystosele or rectocele.

Mooncup and similar found them uncomfortable, too big, leaked, made cramps worse..I hate the feeling of tampons too though.i don't think I'm that tight 🤣

I'm so glad it isn't just me! Thank you c

In my experience, if the cup is hurting me then its not positioned correctly.
I have to fold mine in a C shape and insert, it then sorts itself out.
It did take a while to get used to it so give yourself a break and try again next time maybe?

Maybe your cervix is in a weird place so was getting hit by it rather than covered? Or like a PP said you could have some form of small prolapse which might not be obvious to you in any other way but affecting the positioning of the moon cup. I used one for years but since developing a rectocele I find it too uncomfortable to use most cycles sadly…

Have you tried the put a cup in it website? They have a quiz to help choose the right type; I tried a couple of different ones before finding once that suited me and found this site really helpful

Definitely this, not all moon ups are equal. My first moon up was a branded one that was thick and really stiff and made me feel (to quote a friend) like I'd been kicked in the foof. After that I ordered some super cheap ones and found them much gentler, easier to fold and insert and much more comfy (unnoticeable) when in.

It's not supposed to hurt. How long ago did you have your last baby? I'd always worn one with no problems, had a baby and then tried to put it in when my period returned- I can't use it for a while and I think it's because of where my cervix is. Personally I can't imagine trying a different cup will help 😬

If I had any small prolapse or my cervix in an atypical position wouldn't I feel discomfort from sex? Because I feel absolutely fine and no pain in sex, never liked the feeling of tampons since I was a teen.
