More than one funeral plan ...

Wondering if anyone can advise?

My father is disabled, and often ends up taking several insurances out for the same thing.

He currently has two funeral plans which I've become aware of, which he's been paying for a quite a few years now.
He doesn't need two, one would cover the expenses of a funeral. -
So my question is, if when he passes - the two funeral plan pay outs aren't needed.
What happens with the money from the other funeral cover?

Im thinking of cancelling one but I don't want too if he'll have something paid out from both when the time comes after he's spend £££'s paying into it for so many years.

Apologies, and sorry if it seems insensitive. Not looking for monetary gain - just never dealt with the passing of a family member where I've had to deal with this and don't want to make a hasty decision and flush years of his money down the drain.
If that makes sense?

Thanks in advance.

You would need to check the particular company and their terms.

Sunlife for example say:
You can decide to receive a cash sum instead of the funeral services. Please be aware that if you claim a cash sum instead of the funeral services, you may get less back than was paid in by the policyholder. The cash sum may also be subject to Inheritance Tax.

My late DH had one of those. They just sent me a bank transfer for the amount assured.

It was totally uncomplicated.😗

As ThatsMeTold said you would have to check with the two companies as to their T&C.
You may havr to get yiur dad to give written permission for the company to speak with you.
I would check if they are underwitten by a larger insurance company and how DF ended up with 2 plans as sometimes the sales pitch or circumstance around taking out the contract would come under misselling rules.

If you have the original documation you could go through the T&C and get a company rep to explain any of the bits you dont understand.

While it will be your first time dealing with this the reps will have done plenty of support calls and should be able to answer anything themselves or be able to refer it to the appropiate team.

If you are told something which is not specificly written on the documents you can always send in an email asking for confirmation in writing.
