Sticky eyes would indicate a virus usually right ?

If accompanied by fever / cough / runny nose ?

My son has been having lots of coughs and colds and seemed to be getting over the last one, but just at the tail end I think he's caught a new virus.

The doctor saw him and said he had a wheeze and prescribed an inhaler.

He's now had a fever since 4 am Thursday and it's just not budging. I did ring the doctor again and said they suspect it's viral.

I also suspect that and surely the fact he has sticky eyed now and is super congested, would suggest it's viral too. His cough has definitely been helped by the inhaler but he's just hugely congested and has a pretty consistent high fever, of up to 39. It goes down with my paracetamol and ibuprofen, but it always comes back up within a few hours.

Not necessarily...sticky eyes can be bacterial.
But most upper respiratory tract infections are viral....he has a cold.
What is it you want them to do differently?
There are no real treatments for viral infections, you treat the symptoms and let them get over it.

If both of his eyes are sticky, it's likely viral so doesn't need treatment as it's self limiting. Keep them clean with warm water with some salt, cotton wool balls, one wipe over the eye per ball, do that often to sooth and clean. If it hasn't settled down in 2-3 days, might need drops.

Otherwise, keep going as you are, make sure he drinks fluids and any worsening symptoms, GP again.

I think both eyes plus congested nose probably definitely suggests it's viral ?

I'm not wanting them to do anything tbh. I suspect it's viral and so do they. I am just kind of watching and waiting and I thought the eye situation also points towards it being viral. I was just interested if anyone else also thinks the sticky eyes mean that it's pretty much 100 percent viral and I should not worry about anything bacterial.

Most of the time it's viral.

Viral conjunctivitis is generally more watery than sticky. If it’s more gunky it’s usually bacterial.

It's definitely not that's sticky. Just the eyes look sad and a bit ted and a little bit sticky.

I think when the nose is congested, the eyes can get congested too. It's sad he looks sad with it. But I think his general demeanour is improving.
