Rebekah or Rebecca? (Sorry, copying a thread)

Lol, just saw a thread debating Becky vs Rebecca and thought I would slightly copy it with my own twist (sorry other poster - hope that’s allowed, lol)

im Rebekah but am forever telling people it’s not Rebecca. The number of people who think my name is one of those made up spellings is wild ! It’s actually the biblical spelling (as is Rebecca, I believe) so both are legitimate names. But I always have to spell my name and it’s frustrating , I sort of wish my parents had called me Rebecca tbh ! But I also sort of like the spelling with the K so I’m not sure which I prefer. So out of curiosity , what do you prefer rebecca or Rebekah?

(and sorry other poster for taking inspiration from your thread , lol)

I prefer Rebecca written down, I think it looks much nicer for some reason.

AutumnFroglets · 30/09/2023 11:46

I like them both equally tbh, and my child is a Rebecca. I have always thought the k version was more biblical/religious which we aren't.

I raise you Katherine and Catherine (or even Kathryn) 😂

theduchessofspork · 30/09/2023 11:48

Rebecca TBH, it looks more elegant

But Rebekah has character, although I do imagine it as a bit of a god botherer choice

noticetomarry · 30/09/2023 11:49

It looks made up. Coming from someone with a spelling of a traditional name that also looks made up.

NoTouch · 30/09/2023 11:51

Prefer Rebecca, I would never lumber a child with an unusual spelling of a standard name they would have to recite/correct for the rest of their lives.

margotrose · 30/09/2023 11:54

I went to school with a Rebekah and always thought it was a really pretty name. Rebecca is okay but a bit...blah to me, really.

TheMurderousGoose · 30/09/2023 11:58

I'd assume a Rebekah came from a Jewish family. Or maybe a family belonging to some offshoot Christian church. Just has more religious vibes.

My condolences that Rebekah Vardy has brought great shame on her fellow Rebekahs. You should try and expel her.

YukoandHiro · 30/09/2023 12:00

I think Rebekah as a spelling is Jewish and Rebecca is the anglicised version of an originally Hebrew name.

Spirallingdownwards · 30/09/2023 12:00

Yes I agree. Rebekah Vardy has ruined that spelling far all the other Rebekahs out there.

kitsuneghost · 30/09/2023 12:09

I like Rebekah, where is it from?
If you live in the UK then Rebecca is the common spelling so it is fairly expected that they would write as Rebecca when told verbally.

WhatisanODP · 30/09/2023 12:10

Rebecca.

Its a great name 😁

bleuclair · 30/09/2023 12:11

If I had to use the name I'd opt for Rebecca spelling as fewer issues with spelling. I think a family or other connection would be a reason, in my opinion, to use Rebekah.

Amdone123 · 30/09/2023 12:35

I love both equally. One of my favourite names.
Also love Catherine and Katherine /Kathryn equally.

FourLittleStars · 30/09/2023 12:57

Nice to meet a fellow KAH, op! I like being a Rebekah. It like how it looks written down. Loads of people think it's made up (aren't all names?!) but yeah, it's biblical and Hebrew in original.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 30/09/2023 13:01

Rebecca.

Mummy2Sienna · 30/09/2023 13:01

My grandmother (DOB 1918) was a Rebekah. YANBU.

CeeJay81 · 30/09/2023 13:03

My half sister is Rebekah. Her mum is religious and I think that's how it's spelt im the bible. I like it, less common.

TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon · 30/09/2023 17:02

Rebekah is the older spelling. My cousin is a Rebekah.
