WIBU to dress in costume for Rocky Horror?

OK don't laugh please 🙈 I'm 37 and going to see rocky horror performance tomorrow. I am debating wearing a (fairly tame) costume of magenta. Basically just a black dress with pinafore over it so a kind of French maid (not sexy, I am not sexy). Last time I went to see it I was about 22 and everyone was dressed up but I just had a wave of anxiety that maybe nobody does that anymore and I can't imagine many things more humiliating than being the only one looking like a plank. Has anyone been recently who can confirm if this is still the done thing?

I thought you basically have to dress up for Rocky Horror?

Agreed

Haha yes I'm driving but will need to scuttle accross town from the car park so might get a few looks but I have know bradford quite well and actually an almost middle aged woman in fishnets and heavy make up probably won't stand out too much...

If ever I see anyone out on the town dressed like that, my go-to thought is immediately: "Oh, off to the Rocky Horror Show then..." 😂

I'm currently planning my new look for Rocky after always doing Magenta...

Only thing to check with the venue is regarding props. Most do NOT allow you to throw rice and shoot water pistols during the show now

When I first started dating DH he asked me along to his office's outing to see 'Rocky Horror'. I was so excited as I'd always wanted to see it onstage, and Magenta was going to be my costume of choice.

However when I asked him if anyone else was dressing up he looked a bit confused and said he didn't think so. I was really disappointed and considered doing it anyway (and trying to persuade him to), but chickened out because I didn't want to embarrass him in front of his colleagues.

Just as well - I found out when we got there it wasn't 'Rocky Horror' - it was 'Little Shop of Horrors'!

Yes, he is still sometimes that dozy... 🙄😂

Edited to say: definitely dress up if you've got the chance!

I think costume is mandatory for Rocky Horror!

My teen went twice recently at our local theatre. Was a bit nervous being dressed up in town because she went on her own, but she spotted a big group dressed up going up the high street and tagged along with them. I think the majority of the audience were in costume.

I went last year and I'd guess over half were dressed up - and that was a matinee, so possibly more dressed up for the evening.

Dressing up is the rules op!

I've seen it in Bradford twice over the years, last time the folk in front weren't dressed up, they didn't come back in after the interval!
