Why are my boobs always ’in pain’?

Apostrophes because their not I’m crying in agony type of pain, or sharp pain.
But I constantly, always feel them, it’s uncomfortable, kind of like if you have bang your body part onto something and it’s sensitive for couple of days - does that make sense?
I’m awful at explaining things, so sorry if this doesn’t make much sense…

Anyone have any idea what that could be?

Oh, and it’s been like this for years, so not a sudden thing.

Dull pain and sensitive. Those are the words I would use.

I have this in one boob but not the other. It followed a head butting by my then 1.5 year old when he ran at me for a hug one day. It was so painful, I cried. Three years later it still hurts. I am constantly checking for lumps and bumps, I’ve been on a huge bra discovery journey via Boob or Bust to make sure I was absolutely wearing the right size, I’ve had an ultra sound to check for anything else more sinister and the doctors report simply said “nil concern”. He shrugged his shoulders and said “it’s probably glandular”. So I am none the wiser. Sometimes it’s more noticeable than others - like at various points in my monthly cycle. I’m also probably peri menopausal as well or getting that way so that could be another reason but I am always worrying about it as I’m constantly aware of it. It’s just odd. I also think there is some muscular issue too following the initial headbutt as I probably carried myself a little oddly to protect it from further impact. Not sure if any of this is helpful to you? I think my main advice would be make sure you’re wearing the right bra. It made a huge difference to me and when I wear one of my old bras or a sports bra (which I didn’t bother replacing as they’re so expensive!) it becomes more noticeable again. Look up Boob or Bust on fb and follow their guides. It’s eye opening to say the least.

Have you had a proper bra fitting? I personally like bravissimo.

MyWeekendSucked · 29/09/2023 19:32

@Monkeytrousers04
At least I know I’m not the only one.
So thank you.

I too have wondered if it’s something hormonal, with me getting worse as I get older.

For you it started with your son butting his head, nothing before?
I never had any accident.

@Dacadactyl
Yes, I’m very mindful when it comes to bra, I have to wear then even at night, otherwise it gets worse.

Thank you both for comments.

Breast tenderness? Like during PMS or when pregnant? It has a hormonal cause I believe.

So if you’re having it all the time maybe your hormone levels are out of balance.

OccupantofInterplanetaryCraft · 29/09/2023 19:41

Evening primrose oil? Gameolonic acid in a high dose ( use to be prescription) did it for me

Monkeytrousers04 · 29/09/2023 19:47

The only other time I had it (before the head butting) was after my first covid vaccine, which was in my left arm and it’s my left boob. I had that in the May and it was really quite painful for a good few weeks, then the head butting happened in the August so it all blurs into one… it turns out that there were quite a few women world wide reporting breast cancer symptoms following their covid vaccine due to its proximity to the armpit. I didn’t have another covid vaccine as it really unnerved me.

I also wear a bra all the time now. Once I got my proper measurement, I bought some sleep bras. Prior to the head butting I didn’t wear a bra over night but like you say, wearing a bra significantly reduced the pain/ boob awareness feeling so now I wear one all the time. I even have swimming costumes with proper underwired support built in.

I think if I were you I would start with making sure you’re wearing the right sized bra, and perhaps make an appt to get your GP to check them over? My GP was really good and did a proper assessment, much better than I could do on myself. Then she referred me for the ultrasound for peace of mind. I couldn’t have a mammogram as I was still breastfeeding at the time.

It’s all the time.
Just got stronger as I’ve gotten older.

Doesn’t work around my cycle, never been pregnant.
It’s something that has been on going for years.

@OccupantofInterplanetaryCraft
I’m googling all of those.

Well fitting bra, evening primrose great advice, unfortunately all our hormones do cause this pain! Any new pain or constant pain ask for a referral to your local breast unit. You don't need a mammogram if you are under 40 but may benefit from physical exam and ultrasound scan. Good luck.

I think it's hormones, now I'm old I don't get it at all

SingingSands · 29/09/2023 22:34

I have this and it wakes me up in the night sometimes. They're just always sore.

You've never given a shit about the health, safety or even life of young girls, have you? Unless they haven't been born yet.

Wha

JamSandle · 30/09/2023 17:42

Could it be fibroids?

Celia24 · 30/09/2023 17:50

I used to have breast tenderness because I have fibrocystic breasts. Do you have any armpit pain as well?

LouLou198 · 30/09/2023 17:52

Caffeine? I had some breast pain, was advised by GP to switch to de-caf. This was years ago and I have been fine since.

Jennalong · 30/09/2023 17:52

Second evening primrose oil capsules.

truthhurts23 · 30/09/2023 18:03

hormones are always the main culprit, you might have oestrogen dominance

HoHoHoliday · 30/09/2023 18:22

Since going into perimenopause I have had breast discomfort, it's one of the symptoms of peri that I seem to get worse than others. I can always feel them, sometimes a discomfort, low level ache, and other time really painful. I've stopped wearing a bra although as I can't stand them being wrapped up and that helps a little, along with wearing a loose fitting top. I've recently started HRT but have yet to see any change, I'm hopeful though!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 30/09/2023 22:58

Yes I do, and honestly I have put it down to probably having not worn a proper bra for the better part of a year during covid, gaining weight so they're even heavier, and having a desk job where wearing a bra is even more uncomfortable when I can't wander about and stretch myself out.

Verite1 · 30/09/2023 23:04

I have constant breast pain since peri menopause. Mine feel like they did when breastfeeding and were engorged with milk. I have to wear a bra all the time - they are too painful otherwise

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 30/09/2023 23:07

I have this. I can't wear an underwired bra any more. Have had all the checks and scans. The doctor keeps saying it just 'sometimes happens'. I don't really care apart from when my young kids come in for a hug and I yelp in pain and they get upset

Georgiepud · 30/09/2023 23:08

Yes, the left one which also has an inverted nipple. After checks it was diagnosed as something to do with the ducts. It is painful and heavy.

00100001 · 01/10/2023 08:53

Does your bra fit you properly?
