Do you think this will be manageable?

I am separating from my dh
2dc that we will have 50/50 so no maintenance.
I take in approx 2700 per month.
If my rent is 1100ish , my phone is 35, I have no other debts or payments really. Do you think I could manage it and still have some sort of life/savings? thinking of all the other bills I will nee d to pay obviously. Thank you

Hard to say without knowing your other bills. Then food, petrol, etc etc. I dont think it would leave a lot to play with/save, but its manageable.

Babyroobs · 29/09/2023 14:55

You'd no doubt qualify for Universal credit unless your ex is going to claim it or claiming for one each. That is unless you have savings over 16k.

OhComeOnFFS · 29/09/2023 14:56

Will you have childcare costs?

Goinoutalone · 29/09/2023 15:22

@OhComeOnFFS about 120 per month each.
@Babyroobs yes I have saving over the limit to buy a place eventually
@YeahNoYeah i have a car with no payment but about 50 per week petrol

Council tax?
Gas/Electric?
Water?
Insurance?
Internet?
Food?
Plus the phone, petrol, childcare already mentioned.

I don't think it will leave much spare - will you meet the minimium income requirements for the property?

Goinoutalone · 29/09/2023 17:13

Council tax and water are not necessary where I am.
electric-I’m guessing would be 100ish per month
insurance- whilst we are separated I might just keep this if possible and pay half as it’s a good policy
internet/tv I’m guessing could be 60ish per month

You might get some UC with rent that high. Do a calculator.

Goinoutalone · 29/09/2023 17:29

I’m not in the uk so but costs are similar here I suppose. I don’t know if I’m entitled to a UC equivalent to be honest I’d have to look into that.

Having a brief look on our government website it seems if custody is an even 50/50 im not entitled to anything, it’s a bit unclear.

I think in my head I’ll have 800 left for food and extras after all bills?

Ah ok. Is there a welfare system where you are?

Owjrbvr · 29/09/2023 19:53

Id be able to manage on this; it’d be tight but if there’s no maintenance then their dad will be paying half for school uniform, clubs etc surely? I would check a benefit entitlement calculator as you may be entitled to some universal credit. Also make sure you keep the child benefit coming to you.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 29/09/2023 20:37

Which country? Because Australia calculates childcare differently. It's a combination of income and time in your care so if 50/50 the higher earner would still pay maintenance to the lower earner.

Goinoutalone · 29/09/2023 20:44

@OrderOfTheKookaburra no not Australia but that’s interesting.

@Owjrbvr yes there is a welfare system
