To shut him away?!

ScatterCat has just come home without his collar on. For the second time in a few weeks. Last time we replaced the collar (in case the plastic quick-release was damaged). Bought new tag. He also wears an AirTag --because he's a shit who keeps going AWOL

Recently a new cat moved into the neighbourhood which has upset the feline community and caused many fights. ScatterCat has had a few injuries. Tonight he's bleeding again.

So I have an injured cat, and am down a collar, a name tag and an expensive AirTag.

WIBU to keep ScatterCat indoors now? Or is it mean to restrict him now he's tasted freedom?? There's not a lot I can do about bastard new neighbourhood cat, or to control ScatterCat once he's on the prowl.

Can’t you use a search and find the airtag (and presumably the collar)?

PandaExpress · 28/09/2023 22:49

Keep him in. It's not worth it.

Caerulea · 28/09/2023 22:51

Would he allow you to put a harness on him? Then you could put him on a long lead & he could wander in the garden whilst anchored?

AutumnFroglets · 28/09/2023 22:57

What times are these injuries occurring? If they are mainly around dusk or after dark then just keep him in overnight.

Is this new feline injuring others? You might be able to get a few neighbours together to have a grumble on their doorstep. I'm assuming it's a full tom? Most neuters my way only fight for their garden/food territory and run away elsewhere.

I have no idea about airtags but I thought the whole point of them is to find them when missing.

autumniscomingsoon · 28/09/2023 22:59

Absolutely keep him in it's not worth the risk of further injuries, him getting lost or even attacked again

Thanks for the replies!

I can see on Find My app that his collar is in someone's garden on the next road up from us...

I'm not sure if the new bastard cat is entire...it's small/young? so could well be - but we don't know who owns him/her!

Good idea about harness walks. He's a bit of a Houdini though, so I honestly don't know how easy it would be to keep him in...he has pushed open small windows before!!

I have a six dinner Sid. He goes awol. The main issue we had was someone trying to 'adopt' him, even going as far as taking him for chipping, knowing he has a home, only to find he had a chip already, we were contacted to ask if we still owned him!
I could try to keep him in, but we live in a small place now, and he had 7 years of being an outdoor cat before moving.
I accept he will go 'visiting' but made it crystal clear to all the neighbours that he has a home and if they feed him I will view it as theft and advertise as stolen on both posters and social media. It put a stop to it. Embarrassing them in front of family and neighbours was my best weapon.
He comes home now and is currently asleep on my bed!

olderbutwiser · 29/09/2023 08:09

Whats the problem? What are you most worried about?

Why does he wear a collar? Ours are collarless and we have a microchip enabled cat flap so they can come and go.

Fights? We have a local cat that stalks our garden; both our cats see it off regularly and it gets noisy but rarely violent. I think turf wars are pretty inevitable for cats.

My cats would sooner chew my arm off than submit to a harness.

AutumnFroglets · 29/09/2023 10:51

Go get your collar and while you are there have a chat to them to see if they know of any new cats/neighbours. They might be able to give you clues. I would try to find out who owns it, for many reasons. If its a stray then get CP involved etc to remove it. If owner is planning the snip they might bring it forward. Worth finding out imo before grounding yours for life.

Good luck.
