This has gone on now for around five weeks. It’s explosive, it’s ruined clothes, bedding etc. The smell is horrendous. There are some days where it’s fine but they are few and far between. The weird thing is that there is no correlation with any food. She also seems absolutely fine in herself, eats and drinks as usual, perfectly happy, has her snacks. It’s so bad that she immediately gets a rash even if I change the nappy that second. The GP has done tests, not sure exactly what they were but they didn’t find anything. GP isn’t concerned as no temperature and not loosing weight. These are not normal nappies!! She’s almost 1. Anyone got any ideas? I have to bath her after every poo nappy and I am so exhausted with it.

Sorry you're going through this, before this falls off the board, you probably want to post this in another group around health, so it will have sight for longer and more helpful responses.

Baby3022 · 28/09/2023 17:15

Also it’s not milk allergy, she’s had formula from four weeks and not had a problem, it also happens when she’s not had any cheese or yoghurt.

Has the GP referred to paediatrics at the hospital?
Has there been any modifications to food, for example excluding dairy, gluten, or soy to see if there is any difference?
How old is baby and are they only on solids or still having breastmilk/formula/cows milk?

PeopleAreWeird · 28/09/2023 17:19

How old is baby?

You say its not dairy, but Have you had 2 solid weeks without any dairy at all?

Baby3022 · 28/09/2023 17:19

@Puffinsandcreeks yes they have solids but I would say it’s generally a different thing everyday! I can’t see any link to what they’ve eaten at all. They are almost 1.

Toddler diarrhoea is a medical diagnoses. My nephew had it.
Have you looked it up?

@PeopleAreWeird no I haven’t but isn’t there dairy in formula or is that wrong? Now I think about it it did coincide around the time I introduced cheese but doesn’t have cheese everyday?

One of mine had terrible teething poos, scorched the skin immediately. I know that the medics say teething poos are just coincidence and not an actual Thing, but I found Ashton and Parsons powders really helpful.

Likewise. Particularly when back teeth were coming through. It was like acid and smelt absolutely rancid. Bepanthem was better than sudocrem for the rash, I found.

Ohthatsabitshit · 28/09/2023 17:23

Mine all had burning diarrhoea when teething. 5 of them. It’s most definitely a thing.

caban · 28/09/2023 17:26

You're right, formula is dairy/cow's milk and it would be odd to be fine with dairy for months and then suddenly become intolerant I think.

You could try cutting right down on dairy products other than formula, wheat products and just give really easy to digest foods, and see if that makes a difference?

Gopred1 · 28/09/2023 17:26

Could be compaction with overflow. Does she ever have periods of no poo for a few days or constipation?

UsernameChangedYetAgain · 28/09/2023 17:28

My guess would be she's either constipated or allergic to something like white fish or onions or she's having too much fruit or she's eating oranges

Baby3022 · 28/09/2023 17:28

@SerpentEndBench @Popsicle42 yeah it is the smell that is so awful. It smells like she’s unwell if you see what I mean? I don’t get how the GP isn’t arsed. It’s definitely like it’s scorched the skin.

@Ohthatsabitshit i thought that but everything I read says there is no actual medical link?

I am at my wits end

Okay I’d ask for a referral to peads or the dietitian then ask the HV if they can refer you

PinkiOcelot · 28/09/2023 17:31

My dd had toddler diarrhoea. It was awful while it was happening but it just stopped quite suddenly. She was a bit older than your dc - nearly 2 so was a bit late being potty trained.

Ohthatsabitshit · 28/09/2023 17:31

Is she teething?

Candyflosscrochet · 28/09/2023 17:38

Hi there. We had this.
At about 8 months old, my son suddenly started having a diarrhea, the sort that I would have to pour down the loo. Regular washing, clothes changes etc...just awful. Tried cutting out dairy, no effect.
At the same time, I realised I was actually having similar symptoms ( not quite a liquid but still not normal) but had put it down to having a baby, moving house, going back to work, gallbladder issues.
But after some research, I asked for a coeliac screening, which was negative, but went gluten free. The difference was day and night.
So got my son checked out and his screening was also negative, but put him on a gluten free diet too and again, the difference was phenomenal. Solid poos and a different child.
We have now both been diagnosed with non coeliac gluten intolerance, and boy do I know it if I've been glutened. Thankfully, my son hasn't yet been glutened.
Interestingly, this both really became an issue after we had covid and I've heard if a few people who have developed intolerances after covid.
Might be worth a check?

Puffinsandcreeks · 28/09/2023 17:39

It could well be teething related but I would ask for a referral to paediatrics. I know plenty of children that have had dietary intolerances go undetected until 18 months/2.

Baby3022 · 28/09/2023 17:44

@Candyflosscrochet thank you, sorry to sound naive but what would I cut out to above gluten?! She’s mostly having fresh fruit, fish, yoghurt, cheese, bits of meat.

Justgonefishing · 28/09/2023 17:51

@Baby3022 no veg ? You are meant to prioritise veggies over fruit as they get too used to the fruit sugars…some fruit also can cause explosive diarrhoea. You need to keep a food diary to start with before you try eliminating food groups.

caban · 28/09/2023 17:53

Gluten is in wheat - bread, weetabix, biscuits etc.
