Work R&R rejected

In my last role, I worked hard. I received emails from different colleagues stating I was nominated for 3 separate Reward and Recognition vouchers…it’s a £25 gift card that you can redeem at different retailers. None materialised.

I then got a promotion within same department and am now more senior than my old manager.

Since leaving, I raised with him that I never received those gift cards, and he said he rejected them. I find this odd, as it’s rare for R&R to be rejected. I think it’s stemming from him not liking me. My line manager was inexperienced and eg he would say something against guidance and if I corrected him, he’d blank me for the week.

I think it could have been combined into 1 £25 voucher instead of 3 for value for money, but I think it’s a bit inaccurate to say nothing I was nominated for was worth any voucher. I have seen people get nominated for the same things in that post.

anyway aibu to feel a bit sad about this? The flip side is I have moved on with a large pay rise so it’s not that serious

Can you do something to change it being rejected for people going forward? This is all just because you were more capable than he was. It's very unprofessional and it puts into question if he is fit to be a line manager.

It was actually administering vouchers for the team I manage now that made me remember the ones I didn’t receive! So yes, I’m pushing for my team to nominate more, but also case conferencing them for consistency.

you do see people being nominated for generally being helpful which may be a bit of a question mark if it’s business as usual, but the emails sent to me referenced specific tasks and projects!

My company pushes this 'employee of the month/above and beyond kind of thing. It's £250 before deductions into your wages.

I don't do it/give it a thought anymore, as it's generally someone office-based/admin who gets it every.single.month. And usually for doing something that is in their job requirements anyway.

My company too uses them but for £25. And its always our managers (2 of them) who win as they get nominated by colleagues for going above and beyond and help them out.

Pisses me off as the rest of us are doing the donkey work, the everyday things and our managers are free to help others and go "above and beyond", we cant do this as too busy doing our day jobs and never get given the opportunity to go "above and beyond". One manager has won it 3 times this year and us her underlings never get nominated as we only do our jobs.

that’s horrible!

mine were ad-hoc in year nominations, but it’s shit to have the same people always getting them if there isn’t multiple awards up for grabs

Horrible manager, glad he is not your manager any more. However I'm sure you would not want someone else to have the same treatment.

It’s all a learning curve I suppose!
