It shouldn’t be this hard to find Halloween costumes!

I need 3x costumes for my little boy, 2 year old. All the costumes I’ve seen are either peppy pig/ coco melon (hate, hate, hate!) or actually scary looking - which I find inappropriate for a baby.

Spam me with your Halloween costume ideas please! 👻🎃🧛

Your local charity shop will have loads of you don't leave it too late.
Our local hospice shop has had costumes in since beginning of the school term.

Ds is 3 this Halloween. If he needs an outfit for nursery il just send him in something from home dressing up stuff.

We have:
Fireman outfit
Builders hat, tool kit, goggles.
Bird wings. A crown. A wand somewhere.

From that im sure he can be some kind of magical wizard bird carrying a drill or a fireman with wings.

It’s easier imo buying small children Dress up accessories ie wand/ hat/ crown/ mask. As they don’t outgrow it each year then and you can just add and adjust normal clothes.

Why on earth would he need three costumes for nursery? Surely Hallowe'en is one day? Even if for some bizarre reason he does need more than one, surely you could have two at the most and wash one on the middle day?

Far better to buy this stuff second hand, let's not create more demand for it, just for it all to sit in cupboards for 364 (or 362😆) days of the year.

Sainsburys had a jumper and hat pumpkin set that would be ideal for nursery then get a costume for home events, though I would not worry too much, way too young to understand

We don’t have any dress up clothes at home - maybe I should invest in some things in general. He does have some joiner tool kit things, will look for a vest & hard hat for him.

I don’t understand why it’s so unusual for a little one to have more than one outfit? I know people whose kids dress up in something different every day that week.

He’s in nursery Mon/ Tue/ wed that week and they’ve been ‘invited to dress up’ every day. The Sunday before he’s got a Halloween party with his toddler sensory class and we go to bookbug (and normally lunch with friends) on Thursday where everyone is dressing up. Then we’ve got a dress up party on the Saturday.

I’ve ordered 2 outfits from vinted. Will have a rummage in charity shops ☺️

Just buy a couple of orange or green t-shirts, some black felt, and cut out shapes to tack on a pumpkin face / cat etc to the t-shirt.

Then you can use the t-shirt again and you haven't wasted money on complete frivolities which will end up in landfill by the tenth of November.

Never did any of that dress up stuff at nursery, they don't care.

GallowwayGirl88 · 29/09/2023 14:24

@IWasFunBeforeMum
everyone at our nursery gets right into these kind of things. Someone was dressed up as a lion with face paint for jungle day the other week. The kids all love it.

I have done fun stuff for me and stuff for them. The spider costumes are usually so cute on toddlers- all the little legs popping when they run. Also big hits are builder and fire fighter. Where's Wally is on the list for this year. Google easy homemade costumes and the Americans have loads of easy cute ones. Like making suba tanks out of 2 litre bottles, dressing all in black and adding goggles- scuba diver.

My little one goes to several different events. Always the same outfit though. Splurging on 3 that she would only wear once seems a bit mad.

Could you do something Disney related and pick up something from a supermarket, like a superhero or something? If you're creative try pull something together from Pinterest - they usually have loads of easy-ish ideas. If you're really stuck then a wee t-shirt or vest like this could maybe work instead of an actual costume depending on what it's for?
