to think University students without particular needs do not need an en-suite shower room?

I'm so surprised that University Halls of Residence now offer this as an option to more or less all their students. What the hell? How many of you are indulging your offspring with this poncery and why? (exceptional needs aside of course).

When I went to Uni in the dark ages of the 1980s no one had an ensuite. Almost no one had a wash basin either. Is it a money making exercise?

New build houses are the same. Not every bedroom needs separate washing/bathing facilities. The first world's gone mad!

I went to university in the “dark ages” - well last century anyway. I had no sink or en-suite. Once when I went to the toilet, I found that someone had shat on the floor. Another year, there was one toilet between 12 of us. it wasn’t nice.

So yes, I’ll definitely be “indulging” my ds in the “poncery” of an ensuite this year and my dd when she goes as well.

In my halls the showers and bathrooms were cleaned by cleaners. Toilet roll was provided in the toilets. You kept your shower gel in your room in your wash bag.

See this seems posh to me! We had to clean our own toilets and buy our own bog roll ! I shared with only 6 but some of the other halls you shared with 20 which I would of hated.

Thinking about it an ensuite toilet would be good but I can't see an advantage to an ensuite shower. It must steam the room up and be a pain to clean.

I had a lovely ensuite room at uni but was made to move out for the Easter and summer holidays so they could rent it out for holidays. I would not want to share a bathroom with random strangers; fine in y2 onwards when you choose who you live with but some disgusting grotty bloke who has never heard of a toilet brush - no. Sorry, no. My friend lived in halls with shared bathrooms where the cleanliness got so bad that the cleaners refused to clean there any more (the final straw was actually due to a big piss up in the kitchen which saw vomit and spilled drinks left everywhere). They initially had to clean it themselves whilst the uni sorted the cleaning contract out but even after that they were still disgusting.

I also think if you're newly living amongst strangers and an anxious type then not having to run the gauntlet of a shared bathroom can help you settle in that much easier. Or young people who have experienced sexual violence and don't wish to have to walk the corridors in a towel or hear the door rattling whilst they're changing.

Ensuites aren't a human right but they help.

Well,.next time you go on holiday to a hotel, make sure you book somewhere with a shared bathroom. None of this ensuite nonsense!!

Pretty much always do. Saves money to spend on museum tickets 😎

This describes my experience. But then again somebody did shit in the shower once. 🤢
