Is anyone here a trustee?

I'm interested in being a trustee for a charity, but not sure how to go about it. I work in policy for the civil service, so don't have a "specialist" profession i.e. accounting that I can offer to a role, but wondering if trustees are often just general professionals. Particularly interested in health/mental health charities.

Any advice as to how to go about searching for a role? If anyone here is a trustee, how much work typically is it/how many meetings, etc.? TIA.

You could start here: www.trustees-unlimited.co.uk - the amount of time and energy you need to put in can vary hugely; but it's hugely rewarding work. Many charities are now working to improve the representation of people with lived experience on their boards, as well as diversity (not least because finders are increasingly demanding it).

I may be wrong (easily done) but I was under the impression that a trustee of a charity is held jointly financially responsible with other trustees if all goes tits up.

It's possible. Best practice is to have insurance in place.
