Company refusing the change the date of the tickets

I booked tickets to go do a Christmas lights trail with friends and family and managed to book the tickets for the wrong day. I realised straight away and email them last night and call them today to ask to change for 2 days later ( tickets still available). They refuse to do so, I am so upset, I can’t go on that date and neither some of the other families. The tickets are non-refundable. AIBU to think this is really poor customer service especially for a Christmas event not even sold out yet? Is there anything I can do ?

Do people really not think that this is poor customer service, for them to agree to swap the tickets from one date to another? When they have plenty of tickets left for both dates? What difference would it make to them?

Maybe I'm unusual in thinking that companies would actually value their customers, rather than clearly despising them and being determined to be difficult. Great way to discourage people from giving you return custom.

Or maybe it will encourage the OP not to be so careless when booking and to actually read the Ts and Cs rather than just ticking the box, (we all read them don't we??) Don't you just love how on MN it's always someone else's fault to solve one's mistakes.

NashvilleQueen · 27/09/2023 15:22

Call them out on social media. It often does the trick.

NashvilleQueen · 27/09/2023 15:23

Oops RTFT me

Just buy them on the correct date, suck up the cost, then try again at getting a refund on the other tickets (once you've repurchased the correct date) and if they refuse (which is well within their rights) then sell them online.

If the company hadn't already dealt with it, that would be a terrible suggestion - as asking for a refund (which are specifically stated as being impossible) is a lot more to ask than just an exchange.

Except nobody has said that at all. OP has very clearly stated that it was her mistake and her fault. She asked nicely if they could please swap them following her mistake; she didn't go in demanding and screaming "I know my rights!".

We're just talking about half-decent customer service, when it's literally just pressing a few buttons on a keyboard for the admin people.

It's great to hear that you're perfect and never make the tiniest of mistakes, but the rest of us are human.

Some of you really don't know how to work the world in your favour.

If they are non refundable they are non refundable that would not be refundable because your reason is more important to you than others

She's not asking for a refund though, just à date change

Yes I believe distance selling rules allow 14 days cooling off period

You are incorrect. This does not apply to tickets for an event.

You're correct, I don't think it applies to tickets a particular day. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/consumer-rights-refunds-exchange/, but I'd try quoting the consumer contracts regulations. I've also had weird successes claiming from my credit card company over the years! You're covered if you spend over £100. I'd give them a call and ask. I've been covered on this for concert tickets I couldn't make once. It was 20 years ago, but I was really shocked I got the tickets refunded.

And about section 75 of the credit card act, you'll be covered if they're the only people that sell tickets I think. That's how I got my refund. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/section75-protect-your-purchases/

"Used your credit card to buy from a ticket site that’s the sole vendor of the tickets (for example, direct from a concert venue).
Had other costs associated with a cancelled event (for example, a hotel or train tickets). Read more about associated costs"

It will probably be in the terms and conditions somewhere, the box you prob had to tick before check out that no one ever reads. At the end of the day it's your mistake, a costly one but you are at their mercy, it's their choice at the end of the day, you could try calling again and hope to speak to someone else but wouldn't hold your breathe, Xmas events do sell out alot so they don't need to do it to fill the days if that makes sense

itsgettingweird · 28/09/2023 07:53

It's really daft.

They could but won't. Purely because they have the money now.

Personally I think customer service seems to have gone out of the window recently and the only way back is to contact these sights through SM and allow the public to vote with their feet if they agree.

For example after hearing so many bad experiences about a lights event (very well known) I've decided not to book it.

Although that'll probably help those who decide too because all the comments were about over selling tickets and too many people Grin

IrisEmily · 28/09/2023 08:23

If this is a local Christmas trail, then many local Facebook groups have a re-sell thread. I see this happen a lot local to us. We have a stately home near us which has a regular Christmas lights trail and people re-sell all the time as the tickets are non-refundable. You could try selling at close to face value this far from Christmas and reduce the price closer to the time if you have to.

Mugaloaf · 30/09/2023 07:01

I don't think YABU, OP.

I booked non refundable or exchangeable tickets before for a series of activities at a venue. It would not have been able to do everything in the order I booked (totally my fault for not researching properly), so I called the venue in the day and they changed it for me.

They are bound to sell out if it's a Christmas activity, so although they're not obliged to change anything, it would be good customer service to make the change.

Non refundable and non transferable are not the same thing 🤦🏼‍♀️
