Been going on all day. Trouble swallowing, keep catching my breath, light headed. Did some meditation, hasn't really calmed it down. Went to lay in bed and felt worse all of a sudden. I spoke to someone earlier and it calmed it down a bit but then I had to go about my day. Don't know exactly what I'm anxious about. These keep happening out of nowhere. Just desperate for some support.

CBD will help you. Take some. Within 10 minutes you will feel your body relaxing.

Fallingthroughclouds · 27/09/2023 01:00

Sometimes I have to do the heavy duty meds when I feel like this, but also chamomile tea helps, along with rescue remedy. Sometimes it's also the action of doing these things. I also started vaping CBD about a year ago, I probably shouldn't be recommending it, but I don't vape normally and often I don't do it for several weeks or even months, again the action seems to help and I only use it at bedtime.

Filling your mind with anything is a go to, even if its utter crap on the tv or phone. Sitting doing nothing but thinking can be torturous

Do you mind if I ask whether your are single? I've found it harder without that constant comforting presence in the house, sometimes it's just the distraction. Nothing is unsurmountable and these feeling won't last forever.

Lizzieregina · 27/09/2023 01:06

Try the 4 square breathing. Breathe deeply for 10 seconds, hold breath for 10 seconds then breathe out slowly for 10 seconds. Repeat until you feel calmer. Also find a focal point in your room and fix your gaze as you breathe.

For the long term, I’d recommend an anti depressant (if the panic attacks are a regular thing) and/or a rescue medication (Xanax or klonopin) if they’re occasional
or for extreme attacks.

My son suffered from debilitating panic attacks and does CBT and ADs and it has made life worth living again.

She's four. I don't know why but music and noise is making me feel worse. I am getting tired. Too tired to play the game. Tried lying next to DD to try and sleep but anxiety still going insane. İt's like a drill going off in my head.

Sorry I didn't see all the new replies. Feeling less alone now. Gonna read them.

I used to suffer from panic attacks day and night. Terrifying. I understand what you are going through.

I hesitate to post this for fear of coming across as some kind of crank, but here we go:

What worked for me: a diet of healthy animal fats, meat, fish, vegetables, minimal fruit, and some nuts. Basically, a blood sugar lowering eating plan with minimal carbs. No bread/rice/pasta/root vegetables or sugar.

I know it may sound insane, but that is what helped me. 9 years ago. Once the attacks stopped, they never came back.

My eating is not as strict now, but I monitor my blood sugar levels. I try to eat protein before treats to slow the release of sugar.

Recently I was at an exhibition of an artist who is epileptic and her description of what she felt when an unavoidable fit was coming on was exactly what I experienced with panic attacks. And then I made the connection! The ketogenic diet was originally recommended as a way to help people with epilepsy. It wasn't about weight loss.

So as insane as this may sound, you might want to try eating a ketogenic diet )or as close as possible) to stabilise your blood sugar.

I really hope you find help out of the panic attack nightmare. Flowers

İ do live alone yes. Single. I never lived properly alone before being a mum as was always in house shares or with family. I can't get used to it. I always feel like 'ooh am I really here do I really exist' kinda thing, even with a little one around.

I understand that. Sometimes the only thing that helped with my breathing was excersise. I found I was holding my breathing and even if it was just star jumps it was forcing me to breathe. Have you got anything on tomorrow, can you just right it off and do the bare minimum.

Cosycardigans · 27/09/2023 01:12

Funnily enough the panic attack started today whilst in the middle of eating something I knew I shouldn't have.

I was going to take her somewhere after school, a communal place I found, but I might just rest. Luckily don't have anything to do during the school hours. I think acknowledging my loneliness is helping me to calm down a little bit.

İ would love to go and sort my washing out right now, but I just can't move.

@forsucksfake I have a friend who says exactly what you said regarding diet making all the difference. She follows a similar diet to yours.

Mummumgem · 27/09/2023 01:26

You’ve had a big change in your life, a baby and managing on your own , it’s no wonder you’re having attacks.

go to the doctor get him to check your hormones, my DIL was bad after her baby was born and they found a hormone imbalance the meds have helped her. It could also be diet discuss this with the doctor.

I suffer badly, but it’s due to the meds I take for other conditions. But I find it’s worst if I don’t eat certain things, for me it’s potassium and b12 but a dietician would sort this out for you, also if I’m dehydrated so drink plenty of water. I also can’t sleep without white noise - I have to have a small fan running even if I’m cold.

for tonight, try a glass of iced really really cold water and read a book, not mumsnet ! Something to distract you. Then when you feel your eyes go give into it if you can. If that doesn’t work , get up, don’t go downstairs vertigo is very real with a panic attack, but walk around a bit do something, do some breathing exercises, then try again.

tomorrow call the doctor, you really need help to sort this

Heidineedshelp · 27/09/2023 01:27

Hi, how are you doing?

Cosycardigans · 27/09/2023 01:31

İ took some CBD, made me feel really nice and calm for five minutes then started up again. I'm just too tired to get a book out or play a game now but trying to breathe it away. Screen doesn't usually stop me from sleeping so I'm not worried about being on here. Maybe instead of listening to music , I could just share some of my current songs with you all...

Part of me wishes I had extended breastfeeding. I had an aversion to it eventually but it did help me feel calm most of the time.

Sorry for not replying to all suggestions. İt's still helpful to see that there's options and hope and it can go away.

Perhaps try Joanne?

She has talked me through some panics in the last few years

wouldbeus · 27/09/2023 01:41

I am so so sorry to hear this. I realise I'm very late to the post so I am hoping you have found something to help by now.

wouldbeus · 27/09/2023 01:45

But I have been through this too.
It was a horrible experience as I'd never in my life felt anxious before.
In fact I found it so perplexing that I didn't know how how to handle it.
I was quite annoyed as I'd usually been so open and never in my life worried about anything.

Cosycardigans · 27/09/2023 01:45

I'm still going strong. This anxiety got a hold on me and I don't even know why.

Hey :) fellow day-long-panic sufferer here.

Do you have any games on your phone or a console you can turn to?

Dead serious, I need absolute distraction on days like that. Bedtime can be the worst & I found that Animal Crossing pocket edition was perfect mindless distraction.

Would that work for you?

Second this game as fantastic mindful one handed distraction when anxiety is bad! Easy & calm with no rush! (Unless you get excited anxious to complete a certain quest!) but that's easy to do and not at all stressful Smile

forsucksfake · 27/09/2023 01:49

@Lizzieregina Good to hear!

I haven't met anyone else in person who has had this experience.

I wish more people suffering knew about this, and that med pros would offer this kind of permanent solution instead of the drugs. But there I go sounding like a crank again. Grin

wouldbeus · 27/09/2023 01:51

Ok. My apologies. I'm sure everyone has their help.
