To think that "be kind" has become an excuse to stop holding people to account for their shitty behaviour?

Pretty much that really. It seems incredibly common lately that if you express dislike for someone's behaviour or hold them to account then you're not "being kind"

Latest case of love islander gone rogue (his name escapes me) who allegedly made homophobic comments and threw money at a homeless man has been dropped by his agent. Comments on FB are awash with "be kind", "let's remember be kind people are so sensitive" - yes god forbid we hold people to account!

It's winding me up to death!

Yanbu!

Pollyputhekettleon · 26/09/2023 20:27

That's what it always was. Same with the crusade against judgment - driven by people who have good reason not to want to be judged.

Covetthee · 26/09/2023 20:28

Yep! Its become the slogan of influencers and z listers.

anyone dare criticise them and they are all quick with the ‘be kind’ crap 🙄

Thementalloadisreal · 26/09/2023 20:28

Completely agree it’s now used to silence valid/legitimate criticism, and often to silence women.

Thementalloadisreal · 26/09/2023 20:29

Be kind is used as a shield against accountability

NailyDale · 26/09/2023 20:32

I'm reading Hags by Victoria Smith. She has a thought provoking chapter about #bekind. I recommend the book.

RedSquirrelsRock · 26/09/2023 20:33

Be kind can jog right off, totally fed up this nonsense and why is it ALWAYS aimed at women? I doubt a 6'6" brick shit house of a man would be told "But you must be kind to everyone." If I was the brick shit house, the speaker would have been knocked right out of their boots.

Louchelizard · 26/09/2023 20:48

Agreed. It’s nonsense, used to deflect any kind of criticism, valid or otherwise.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 26/09/2023 23:35

It's just another way to silence women and girls

Catsmere · 26/09/2023 23:46

As @EineReiseDurchDieZeit said, it's all about silencing women and girls. Ever see it used against men? No, it's women who are required to be silent, to have no boundaries and no rights.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 27/09/2023 00:09

And MNers are some of the worst for it....

PleaseGiveMeBackMySummer · 27/09/2023 00:24

100% agree. Sick of it I am. And, as has been said, it's only (usually) aimed at women too. No-one tells a fucking MAN to #BEKIND Hmm

PleaseGiveMeBackMySummer · 27/09/2023 00:32

I saw childrens T shirts (for kids aged 4 to 10,) for sale in....I think it was Asda several years ago. Lovely bold dark purples and dark blues and black for the boys - with Be brave. Be the boss. And Adventure boy etc... with gaming and sport and dinosaur pics on them.

Then there were little frilly pinks and peaches for the girls, saying Be kind. Be a princess. Be nice. Be good ... With pictures of unicorns and kittens ... Hmm

How about a big black and red T shirt for me - with devil horns on - saying 'GO FUCK yourselves, you twats!!!!!!!!!!' Sorry, I am a bit ranty. But I'm so sick to death of this whole idea that girls/women should be so nice and so kind and so compliant and so passive. Whereas boys/men can be just really aggressive and bold and brash and it's okay. Fuck that shit for a game of soldiers. ARGH! I'm angry. Angry

ALongHardWinter · 27/09/2023 02:34

Totally agree with you. Every time I hear the phrase 'Be kind',I can guarantee that it is being said by someone who is anything but kind.
