Triage A + E

I got an x-ray in a and e 3 days ago, and they called me to come back in today to a +e to review the x-ray.

I'm sitting in the waiting room. I've been here for four hours.

Alot of people have come in after me and have been seen before me.

I know that triage means that the most urgent cases are seen first.

I was just wondering can triage - also mean that I won't be seen at all, if more urgent cases constantly come in?

Have you double checked with the receptionist and said that you are only there for a review of X-ray? It seems a bit daft for you to have to go via a&e for that as you are right ,triage has to go with those that need it more urgently and you are there for something routine.

That doesn't sound like an A+E matter but an outpatient one

When we were called back for DD1 the consultant had given us an appointment and though we went through A&E we were sent straight through to the fracture clinic.

Seems strange your back in A&E I went to the fracture clinic to speak about my xray.

Snap

This was a few years ago for me, about 5 years I think.

Again, you are usually made an appointment with the fracture clinic to look at x rays
Check with the receptionist

endofthelinefinally · 26/09/2023 13:37

I would guess you are meant to be in fracture clinic. Did they give you a card or anything in writing? I have too much experience of fracture clinic. Every time I fall over I break something. Get xrayed in the walk in clinic, told to come back to fracture clinic for review.
I guess it might depend on whether they could see a fracture on the xray at the time.

therealcookiemonster · 26/09/2023 13:39

this doesn't sound right. in every hospital I've worked, you'd be booked into fracture clinic for follow up

avemariiiaa · 26/09/2023 13:41

It sounds bonkers to be sat in a&e with new patients for a follow up appointment. I would check if you are in the right place.

Paintingonthewall12 · 26/09/2023 13:43

This sounds like you should have been seen at the fracture clinic. If this is their process it’s not a very good one!

PosterBoy · 26/09/2023 13:44

You are in the wrong place, go and find fracture clinic

NE14T · 26/09/2023 13:46

So in the ED I work in, you would be called back to ED and steamed to minor injuries to have your initial treatment eg) a cast (presuming no initial treatment was done at the time and DFR process has shown there was indeed a fracture or whatever). Then you are sent a follow up with fracture clinic.

However, you are prioritised within minor injuries and certainly shouldn’t be waiting to be seen after unwell majors patients.

I'm just out of a and e now after 9 hours.

I shouldn't have been sent to the fracture clinic as I didn't have a fracture.

I went in with bad abdominal pain and a swollen stomach three days ago. They took an X ray. They called me yesterday to go back into a and e today for an ultrasound.

I double checked with reception that I was in the right place. I was .

It seems to be the way they are doing it in that hospital. A and e is like general admissions , then they come and call you and send you to the relevant dept. Im in Ireland.

Thankfully I'm out of there now
