Opinions on this please .. recently bought a couple of things on Vinted for my children. All immaculate condition brands like Nike, under armour)
Mentioned to my family and feel like the worst mum ever now for buying 'second hand' 😢
They have lots of new things but if I see a bargain I don't see the issue!
Been made to feel bad because I haven't bought used for myself but if I seen something I liked I 100% would!
What do other people think .. thanks x

I don’t really but anything new anymore, why would I, when I can buy BNWT or as good as for much cheaper prices on Vinted? Sure you could take their (shit) ‘advice’ to heart and buy everything new bht all you would have to show for it would be less in your bank account.

Likeaburstcouch · 26/09/2023 09:26

Buying second hand is better for the environment and cheaper. You're doing a good thing :) tbh your family sound dim, materialistic and mean.

Owjrbvr · 26/09/2023 09:27

I buy for my DC and myself on Vinted; always been brilliant condition and often a better brand than I would have been able to afford. I also feel it’s much better for the environment. Ignore them and don’t mention it in the future

I buy almost all my kids' (and my!) clothes on Vinted. I can get great branded stuff for less than supermarket prices, it lasts longer, it's kinder to the planet, and I'm not as upset when stuff gets ruined. I also sell the stuff that survives!

tropicalpineapple · 26/09/2023 09:32

My daughter is four and majority of her clothes have been passed on 'second hand' and bought via Vinted, they've then been saved for her younger sister. The clothes are immaculate and often brand new and it's such a waste for them not to be worn and passed down again. Children grow so quickly.

Himawarigirl · 26/09/2023 09:33

What everyone else said. I love vinted.

evtheria · 26/09/2023 09:34

Call it preloved!
You're:
• saving money without too much effort or loss of quality
• helping reduce consumption*
• increasing the life cycle of these clothes
• clothing your kids in nice, trendy stuff
• helping someone else make a bit of money
• setting your children a good example

They're probably just irritated they're spending full price themselves, and are too proud to try otherwise.

*arguable, I think majority of clothing in Britain still ends up in landfill, but you're part of important minority!

iamwhatiam23 · 26/09/2023 09:37

Absolutely nothing wrong with buying from vinted! Imo the mugs are the people paying full price for brand new items that will only be ruined or outgrown within weeks! I hate buying clothes from shops and only do so when they are on sale or it's something i really really want. I feel ripped off if i pay full price from a shop! Its also much better for the environment to buy pre loved things!

Heatherbell1978 · 26/09/2023 09:38

Your family need to get a grip. In what way are you a bad mum for buying a Nike top for £5 versus paying for it new for £40? Surely you'd be a worse mum for throwing away money needlessly which could be used for more important things?

I'm racked with guilt at the money I spent on brand new kids clothes when they were teeny. Vinted wasn't around then but those hundreds of pounds could have been put to better use. No-one cares or remembers now about the £50 Boden jacket I spent on DD when she was 2.

evtheria · 26/09/2023 09:38

PS I'm a bitch, however. I'd say something like "I'm happy getting good stuff for less! Some people really just like to throw money away, even in this economy..." (include pointed eyeroll).

vegsoup · 26/09/2023 09:42

I get almost all our clothes from Vinted, and before Vinted it was eBay newborn bundles!
Nothing wrong with second hand, you wash everything before use same as a brand new item so 🤷🏽‍♀️

PurpleBananaSmoothie · 26/09/2023 09:45

You’re making better use of your money, which can then be used to make your children’s lives more secure by paying bills or saving for the future (yours and theirs). You’re also reducing the environmental harm from fast fashion - leaving a better world for your children to inherit and enjoy. Sounds like you’re doing a good job to me.

BTW I buy primark things for DD on Vinted. It’s the only place that will sell some of her favourite characters but I won’t shop in primark but I’m happier reducing waste and buying pre loved primark.

Greydogs123 · 26/09/2023 09:48

I always check vinted first now for my child. She is pretty picky about clothes and I got fed up of buying new stuff which she suddenly decided didn’t ‘feel’ right after I’d taken tabs etc off. Now I buy stuff off vinted and if she doesn’t like it it can go straight back on!
I still buy the occasional new thing, but it’s much better for the planet to buy secondhand.

Luxell934 · 26/09/2023 11:36

They don’t need to know where it comes from.
