To be annoyed at Boots Advantage Points policy discriminating against formula feeding

Recently found out that Boots don't give advantage points for formula for babies under 6 months. When I asked why I was told 'because we promote breast feeding'.

I guess they can give their points to whoever the hell they like as it is an extra but this really riled me. I am all for promoting bf but this isn't doing that - it's stigmatising ff. Promoting bf would be to give double points for bf stuff like pads / pumps etc.

Anyway thought no more of it until the next time I was in Boots and wasn't allowed to buy my ds's formula with the points I have acrued. this REALLY annoyed me as I have earnt them spending money in Boots and feel I should be able to spend these on whatever I like!

So AIBU? I don't want this to turn into a ff v bf debate - I bf my ds1 for nearly 6 months so am all for it - just didn't work out for us this time. And very pro them promoting it. Just don't think this is... Thoughts?

When I asked in boots they said they can't give points on anything which can be subsidised by the government e.g. prescription meds.

we're just investigating!
Fio, you can either use them at the till in Sainsbury's (you have to ask though, they don't offer) or look on the nectar website for other ways to spend.
(I sound like I work for them...I don't!)

Victorian squalor so in Tesco you can use points for formula then? Didn't see that in the list of stuff you posted...

yes, they just take it off your bill - I think it's 500 points = £2.50

LieselVonTrapp · 05/03/2008 14:44

This is why I dont do Boots. You get cheaper at Asda/Tesco

VictorianSqualor · 05/03/2008 14:54

That's just it alicet, I'm not sure.
It says you cannot collect points on formula, but nothing about redeeming them, I imagine it would be on the back of the voucher, but maybe if you were buying numerous items, it could be used off your whole bill, I really don't know.

FAQ · 05/03/2008 15:04

well I've used Tesco vouchers to pay for a shop that included FF........don't know how it would work if you only bought FF though.

Ooh sorry to people who asked me things I went away.

To be fair to Boots I've only tried it in one branch, but there was a big sign on the door saying breastfeeding mothers only.

DH has been chucked out of Mothercare before as well when trying to feed DS, did it on a bench in the shopping centre instead. Understand that a bit better, in case people are sensitive about bf in front of a man.

2shoes · 05/03/2008 17:10

surely though you cn bottle feed a baby any where. where as a bf mum might not want to do it in public. so if they have limited space..

Emprexia · 05/03/2008 17:14

Tesco don't give points or staff discount on formula either.

Emprexia · 05/03/2008 17:15

You can use Tesco vouchers to buy formula, you just can't earn points on it.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/03/2008 17:19

You can spend vouchers or points on formula, just not receive them

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/03/2008 17:20

Oops I should have read the whole thread before posting.

Emprexia · 05/03/2008 17:25

heh.. sorry Devil, lol. I've been on the checkout a tesco for 3.5 years.. i'm full of useless knowledge about clubcard.

monkeybutler · 05/03/2008 17:29

Hello! I work for Sainsburys and they not only do not award nectar points for formula they also don't count it in calculating how many Active Kids Vouchers you get. I was bored on the checkout one day (believe it or not) and read the back of the voucher and it puts formula together with cigs and petrol as things that are excluded.

We can sell as much alcohol, glue, knives, paracetamol, rat poison, high fat junk food and parrafin as we want. Just not formula as it is the root of all the evils in the world. Some kids brought up on it go to hell I have heard.

monkeybutler · 05/03/2008 17:31

Kaishay - you cant get sainsburys staff discount on three things. Cigs, petrol, and formula.

SueBaroo · 05/03/2008 17:31

rofl, monkeybutler!
