Pharmacy error - would you leave it or go back?

So last week I picked up my prescription, got home and realised I was a few tablets short, went back and explained, they apologised and said the pharmacist was new, gave me the correct amount and all was sorted. Today I’ve been back for another prescription, just opened it and they’ve given me too many tablets this time! Double the amount. The thing is, there’s 2 signatures, one under ‘dispensed by’ and one under ‘checked by’, so do I take it back and risk potentially getting 2
people in trouble or say nothing? I don’t want to get anyone in trouble but equally I’m not sure if they count stock and if anyone will get in trouble if they’re short on stock if that makes sense!

They are busy.

You have more than you need and any you return will be destroyed as they can’t reuse them.

Do go back to them - don't think of it as getting the pharmacist in trouble, but more that the next person who gets the medication wrong might think they need to take double the dose or twice the course and end up seriously ill from a prescribing error. They will find out something is wrong when they do stock take so it's delaying the inevitable by not letting them know.

I agree with @PlanBea

You need to go back and quietly say something. I was given the wrong bag and I opened it immediately as the box of meds was felt a totally different shape. I was curious and discovered it wasn’t new packaging- it was someone else’s script! They were v apologetic.

Thank you everyone for the opinions! I think I’ll go back in the morning and quietly let them know, I hate the thought of getting anyone in trouble and I know they’re busy but this is the second error the new pharmacist has made with my prescriptions alone in a week so hopefully will just make him think to be a bit more careful!

I'd go back too. It's useful for them to know,

My DS was once given 10 weeks of a drug instead of 10 days worth x 2 as he was taking two different doses. He was switching off his old medication to a new one, we had waited hours at the hospital to get the prescription as they had just changed their dispensing system and were having teething problems. I didn’t notice until we got home, it was an expensive drug but when I called I was just told to keep it invade DS switched again.

Yes I would go back and let them know, they will at some point, identify they've got missing stock and you letting them know will mean they know where it's gone - they're going to have to account it either way I would think, at least they can identify where it went and account for it if you take it back and let them know.

I took it back this morning and they said thank you so much for being honest and rectified the prescription. Always going to be teething problems when you have new staff In I suppose! :)
