Wasn’t sure where to post this but anyway,

does anyone here have willow tree figurines in their homes? and know what they really mean?

my mums birthday is upcoming, I have seen a few of these in her home so I’m sure she likes them?

I recently became a ftm and she adores my baby of course! (She LOVES being a grandma) I came across the attached pic online and thought it would be a nice gift for her from baby. Is this a normal gift to give? What do these mean?

im overthinking this for some reason, I think it’s because I don’t want to buy something not knowing what they fully mean

It's just a representation of a grandmother with her grandchild.

DustyLee123 · 24/09/2023 21:33

It’s lovely.

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 24/09/2023 21:34

Personally i hate that these have no faces but it says grandmother so i would imagine it is celebrating the special bond between baby and grandmother. If that is what she likes then go for it.

Hariboislife · 24/09/2023 21:34

I have one of a mother with two children and I love it

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 24/09/2023 21:36

I have the mother and daughter one and I love it. Some work colleagues got it for me. :) I also have the cats, which very weirdly look like my two.

the one you've shared just shows the bond between grandmother and grandchild and I think it would be a lovely gift

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 25/09/2023 06:04

The name of the figurine comes on the box and on a card inside too so she will know what the motive behind it was. I think its lovely.

daisychain01 · 25/09/2023 06:14

Your one is lovely OP definitely get that for your DM - I'm sure it will give her a lot of joy knowing you chose it for her.

I agree that they are such a lovely way of showing the bond between different people and so nice as a gift of appreciation to special people.

Querypost · 25/09/2023 06:19

We have a few that mark special moments in our lives, really like them. I'm sure she'd be delighted.

Yoyoban · 25/09/2023 06:23

I'd check that she actually likes them first. For a while they were a pretty popular gift - I had one of these in my home due to being given it as a gift but really I don't like them at all - I was really quite happy when it got broken.

But IF she does like them I think it would be a lovely gift.

Mercedes45 · 25/09/2023 06:27

I got one of these for both grandmother's last Christmas. They are so beautiful. I also bought one for my partner, the father and baby one, I was an emotional wreck (baby was 2 months) and actually cried when it arrived. It was my babies first Christmas.

This. At one point they were everywhere and started to just look tacky.

My grandma had one as gift, my grandad drew a face on it 🤣 I don’t think he got it…

KrisAkabusi · 25/09/2023 07:45

I don't understand what you mean by "what they really mean". They're just nice ornaments. The one you posted is a grandmother. What else is there to understand?

Wishthiswasntmypost · 25/09/2023 07:49

I have two given to me when my mum died. She is clutching forget-me-nots and mum died with dementia. I find it really symbolic of the love we shared rather than the horror of dementia so I love it. The other is mum and daughter and we'd had a difficult time so again it feels poignant and special. I didn't know how popular they were. They just mean something to me, are not offensive and it was the thought behind them that makes it special

SuddenlyOld · 25/09/2023 08:10

Oh dear, I thought they were made from willow wood 🙈

Every day is a school day

But yes, it's an ornament, I don't think it has any special meaning other than what the figures represent

This. At one point they were everywhere and started to just look tacky.

Why do things become tacky when they get more popular? I've never understood the reasoning behind this.

Anyway op, they don't mean anything other than the title of the ornament. Ask if she likes it and then, if so, get her it.

Beargrumps22 · 25/09/2023 09:38

i love them and would be delighted to receive.
funny how things go out of fashion those Piggin figures used to be dear now charity shops and car boots are chock a block with them for instance

That is so funny! Wish I could see the face he drew! 😂

They just become a lazy option for a gift

CurlewKate · 25/09/2023 13:03

If that's the sort of thing she likes then it's absolutely perfect. Go for it!

TheMurderousGoose · 25/09/2023 13:04

If she's bought the figurines for herself she obviously loves the style and this sounds like it would be the ideal gift for her.

I find them a bit eerie.

It's not a lazy option if it would delight the recipient, it's a thoughtful one. My mum has the grandmother with grandaughter one.
