To ask what on earth has died in my garden (photo attached)

For weeks now my dogs have been finding bones in my garden. We've only lived in this house for around 3 months and it seems constant. These are just from the past few days.

Are animals dying in our garden or is someone throwing these in?! Also why do they look as though they've been cut. So many questions ...

Probably marrow bones given to previous owner's dog.

The fact that the bones are so neatly cut suggests that the previous owners of your house bought bones for their dogs from a butcher. The fact they are all cut into quite small pieces is further evidence that will hopefully put your mind at rest.

Previous owners had no dogs and lived here for 13 years. So must be somebody throwing them over?

Those are butchered bones

madamreign · 24/09/2023 19:03

They have been cut with sharp tools and cooked, possibly some time ago.

Hard to tell, but looks like cow or sheep.

margotrose · 24/09/2023 19:04

They look like bones from the pet shop or butcher.

WetBandits · 24/09/2023 19:05

Butchered and cooked bones, definitely. Probably foxes using your garden as their dining hall Grin

SueDonnym · 24/09/2023 19:05

They also look like they’ve been outside for years as bleached white.

AnSolas · 24/09/2023 19:12

Butchered bones (by humans) so they could have been used for the marrow by the prior owner but dont look chewed on.

Emmmm.
Did you meet the owners and check that nobody went missing from the house??
Sorry to freak you out 🤷

They have likely been there for years, even decades from the looks of them - if the previous owners had no dogs they probably had no idea. They may have been buried also.

Now your dogs are using their noses as designed and bringing in the treasure they’ve found!

I don’t think there’s anything sinister at all - I don’t imagine anyone is ‘throwing them in’ (for what purpose?!).

They could have been left by foxes, rats, dropped by birds, anything!

They're really old bits from the bones that dogs get given. Maybe the previous owners had a dog at some point?
