To want to start a new life?

Guys, I want to start a new life. I have no idea if this is really doable and absolute no idea where to start but I just have this burning desire to uproot and start afresh. My entire family are born and raised here (midlands), nobody has ever left!

Is anybody able to offer any practical advice, experience, to do list etc?

For context, I am 30, DS is 8 - just us two. I have maybe around 60k in easy access savings. Nothing to sell. Degree educated. No criminal record.

Hiya, I made a post in the last few days about uprooting from south of midlands to the Lake District.

My son is a little older, he was 18 when we moved and we only stayed for as long as we did so he could stay close to his dad.

Ive been looking for somewhere to move to for years and always thought it would be overseas, so every holiday is go on would be a potential re location place: lanzarote, Ibiza, Menorca, Portugal, Costa Rica etc.

For now, the Lake District is perfect for us - I’ve managed to sell my mortgaged house and buy outright here mortgage free, there’s so much amazing stuff to see and do here for free all year round, I know it would take me years to tire of exploring here.

It’s also giving me a higher quality of living, much safer for children, it’s still very community led, and just amazing really :)

Id say….. just go for it and things will unfold…. So go exploring, book some adventures, sell up and get a camper, visit a town you’ve always loved etc and follow your dreams ❤️

I dream of doing this but for practical reasons I couldn't. Go for it OP.

You should totally do it, OP. I’m not from the UK, but lived there in different parts for many years, as well as in Paris, the south of France, Italy, a couple of different parts of the US, the ME and Ireland. I have to say that the midlands of England was the one place I really didn’t enjoy, though I appreciate it’s different if you come from there. But in general, happening to have been born somewhere is no reason to stay there. Your lack of languages is going to limit you, though, and I’m assuming you only have a UK passport..?

Where abroad have you been? Did anywhere in particular appeal? When you imagine a different life, what comes to mind?
