To ask how to stop my jeans smelling?

HELP! It doesn’t matter how often I wash my jeans, they all dry with a horrible smell.

No other clothes, bedding, towels do, they all smell strongly of detergent. It’s just my jeans. Washed a pair for the second time this week yesterday, this morning I’ve gone in and smelt them on the airer and they smell so bad of foisty/ mustiness. It’s driving me insane as I can’t really wear any of them atm due to this smell.

Anyone had anything similar? How do I stop them from smelling?

I hate washing lines. I’m out of the house from half six until six. For most of the year that isn’t going to work. Then add rain into the mix. I tumble dry a lot. I have no cleaner, don’t fly as much as many people. It’s fine.

Might be a silly question but are they dark wash jeans or black jeans? I’ve noticed that some of my black jeans have a smell. Like a burnt smell even after washing. Apparently this is something to do with the dying process.

Same. Out all day usually. Although in the summer it’s not so bad. Darent risk it in the winter though.

we are lucky that we’ve set up a line in the garage so can line dry some things if needs be. And if I’m wfh I keep an eye on the laundry outside if it’s an ok day

Put a dehumidifier under the airer and a sheet over the top of all of it. Creates a warm dry bubble.

You need washing line

RampantIvy · 24/09/2023 09:13

I have a rotary washing line because my garden isn't big enough for a single line. It goes into the garage when not in use.

I get this with dcs school jumpers. The only way to get rid of it is to dry them outside. It's down to not drying quick enough. If I wash them and dry them inside and they smell fusty, I'll wash them again (hate the smell), even then though, I'll have to dry them outside to get rid of the smell even when washed again (tbf, I only ever use a shortish wash on most things, so don't know if it would be different on a longer wash)

This thread had been useful in that I've never thought of adding zoflora. I have a few sports kits that have a bit whiff as soon as you put them on, even fresh out of the wash, so I'll give it a try.

Try Halo washing liquid.
Amazon or Sainsbury’s

I had this with my jeans and put a bit of Napisan in the machine which worked

GymBergerac · 24/09/2023 13:40

I pretty much only wear jeans, all the time. Most of them wash fine, but I have a pair of cheap black ones I bought from a market, which smell really wierd when they're washed. I've soaked then in Zoflora a few times and they're much better, but there's still a whiff when they come out of the machine, I'm sure it's whatever dye they were coloured with.

I have this with a denim jacket I bought from Primark, never had it with anything else, I've washed it several times but the smell always comes back!

This can definitely be the case with black jeans.
I had 2 pairs of the same jeans, one black and blue.
The black ones alway had a burnt chemical smell even after being washed scores of times. They were black denim not like a lot of black jeans you get now.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/09/2023 12:42

Have you tried laundry cleanser?

cakewench · 26/09/2023 17:26

Maybe you need to clean your washing machine as well? Jeans will retain the most water after a wash so they will be the clothes you'll notice any smell on the most I imagine. Run a very hot wash with some non bio washing powder or another cleaner (google 'maintenance wash') it might help.

Why on earth would you get rid of the washing line? You can get a retractable one and put it away between uses. It's the best, and obviously most environmentally friendly, way to dry.

I thought this too. Couldn't manage without with extendable Minky 😂😆🤣
