Do you believe in the Loch Ness monster?

Watching the ch5 documentary about this. Always liked to think there's something out there. But surely it would be dead by now?

Thoughts?

Not really. No recent sightings despite everyone and their dog having a phone with a camera.
I personally believe it was a whale penis that people saw.

Frequency · 23/09/2023 00:16

I think something , most likely a giant kelpie, was there at some point but has long since died due to starvation.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 23/09/2023 00:33

If there is anything monster-like, it’s far better off staying hidden.

Sarahzb · 23/09/2023 01:38

About the same as the as the stupid 'aliens' supposdly released to the press recently.
Nonsense.

KnowledgeableMomma · 23/09/2023 02:03

No Loch Ness monster, but a great story and tourist draw.

Ponderingwindow · 23/09/2023 02:11

I don’t think the water is big enough to hide anything large and mysterious. It’s not quite like the ocean where we are still discovering new large creatures.

I wish it were true though. I just like the idea. Basically an underwater dragon hiding in the depths and in reality a family of underwater dragons. What’s not to love about that.

I have been to Loch Ness a few times

Nobody has proved that there is no monster

The Loch is very deep !

I thought they'd established that the loch does not hold enough food sources to sustain an animal/fish of that size?

PyongyangKipperbang · 23/09/2023 02:41

No I dont and I never did.

Do I want it to be true? Oh yes, desperately!!

MiniGinny · 23/09/2023 02:47

I don’t think the water is big enough to hide anything large and mysterious

not sure about that! I remember a fun fact from a Loch Ness boat trip - the loch holds more water than all the lakes, reservoirs and rivers of England & Wales combined

ClaraBourne · 23/09/2023 02:48

There was a lady called Bessy
She went to the Loch to see Nessie
She fell in the mud with a massive thud
And Nessie saw Bessy all messy

Piemam · 23/09/2023 03:15

@ChristmasKraken But you'll never find a Nessie in the zoo!

WandaWonder · 23/09/2023 03:28

How would it have survived for this long? Unless there is a gang and they breed like rabbits?

ApolloandDaphne · 23/09/2023 03:54

Of course I do. As a Scottish person I think it is mandatory to believe in Nessie, kelpies and the unicorn.

steff13 · 23/09/2023 04:55

Yes. I think it's more fun to believe in things than not believe in them. And it doesn't hurt me to believe that a monster exists in a loch in Scotland.

Dartmoorcheffy · 23/09/2023 04:59

Giant catfish

FedUpMumof10YO · 23/09/2023 05:14

Nope.

Tourmalines · 23/09/2023 05:24

A BIG NO !

Oysterbabe · 23/09/2023 05:26

No of course not but it's a fun lie. DS is fascinated by the idea.

BeethovenNinth · 23/09/2023 05:40

I think most Scottish folk think it’s perhaps been a large eel

nice wee money spinner though!

Too deep and cold and dark brown. All the life is is the top few metres so not enough food and it would be spotted constantly.

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 23/09/2023 05:46

Hermittrismegistus · 23/09/2023 00:00

After all this time surely it couldn't be the same one?

There are some creatures that live for hundreds of years. Greenland sharks don't even reach sexual maturity untill around 200 years old (I think).

DS was fascinated by them as a boy… can live around 500 years!

Summerslimtime · 23/09/2023 05:52

If you go to the Loch Ness visitor centre or whatever it is, there is a whole presentation about the Loch which tells you that the local hotel owner made it up as business was struggling.

They did. If you go to the Loch Ness centre it’s basically a long explanation as to why it’s not possible.

The loch has been scanned a number of times and nothing has been found and pretty much all (if not actually all) of the “photos of Nessie” have been explained.

That's impressive!
