Take days off for move or Christmas?

Evening,

So to give a bit of background : my employer's annual leave year runs from Jan to Jan, so my leave will restart then. Im going away next month for two weeks and after that I'm left with 3.5 days.

Originally I was planning to use these 3.5 days over the Xmas period and go away. I was going to use the half day on Friday the 22nd December to fly, Monday 25th and 26th are bank hols, and I was going to use the remainder 3 days for the rest of the week - 27th, 28th and 29th. Meaning in total I'm away from the 22nd - 29th December.

However, I've had some news which means I'll have to move on the 20th November.
Usually I take a week off for a move.

Would it be crazy to take just the day off for the move , so 20th November, leaving me with 2.5 days so I can still do my Xmas plans? Or should I just use the remainder 3.5 days for the move and work up to Xmas and thereafter?

What would you do?

Thanks x

If you take one day off but don't get all the moving done you're in a very difficult position. You can't really leave your house half moved.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "half moved"? The move is taking place on the 20th November, not over multiple days.

I would keep your plans, it may mean your home is a bit chaotic for a few days longer but that’s fine.

Are you hiring professional movers? I worked on the day of our last house move as DH was there to oversee the movers, they finished moving the stuff into the new house around the time I finished work, and it was a Friday so I had the weekend to unpack and it worked out fine.

Personally I would just take 1 day for the move. Yes you will be living in relative chaos for much longer and have some busy evenings but that would be worth it for me to have the time away at Christmas. You could consider a packing service to help too, although you will have the weekend beforehand which will help with that bit.

Yes, hiring professional movers

Is one of the houses rented? If so, can you get any overlap?? Or do you have too be out of one house and in the next on the same day?

20 November is quite a way in advance. Can you shift it to the Friday, and get DH to supervise the packers, sort over the weekend, and still have your holiday?

Some employers give extra days off if you are moving house, check your contract/work policies.

I would keep your original plans. As long as your stuff is in your new place, it can just take a bit longer to unpack. No big deal.
